The most bizarre thing to me is that he thought he could just disappear to SA for what, a week, and think no one would notice?

When things first started breaking I thought perhaps he had entered a fugue state, or maybe he had gone into the woods "hiking" in order to commit suicide and couldn't do it. Maybe a little far-fetched, but to me not as unlikely as a governor pulling a teenager-sneaking-out-his-bedroom-window-to-see-his-girlfriend stunt like this. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
