A woman governor for Wisconsin?
Political Wire reports on speculation that Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle's is being considered for possible appointment to head the Peace Corps.

Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton would then likely step into the Governor's job.

1. Sounds feasable
Barbara is very popular in WI and I believe she would make a great governor. Don't know if she wants it though. Doyle served in the Peace Corps many years ago and still speaks fondly about that time.

4. Doyle has been a good "goalie" in Wisconsin, but is not warmly and
deeply loved.

The GOP has him in their aim.

I think Lawton would be terrific. I hope she wants the job.

5. He would be a great pick for the Peace Corps

He and his wife were in it many years ago. He's a centrist Democrat governor and Lt Gov Lawton is more progressive. I know a lot of Democrats would be thrilled to have her as our next Governor. And I certainly would be.

It was rumored that Doyle would be a cabinet pick if Obama won- this would actually be a better fit.

She and Rep Baldwin were co-chairs of the Clinton campaign in Wisconsin.

Rumor is denied:

Rumor about Doyle appointment not true, aides say
By Stacy Forster of the Journal Sentinel
Jun. 26, 2009

Madison – Speculation that Gov. Jim Doyle is headed to a post in the Obama administration resurfaced this week, with a rumor swirling in the Capitol that the two-term governor would be named head of the Peace Corps.

The rumor, which was picked up by Republican blogs, isn’t true, Doyle aides said Friday.

“Any speculation that there is a pending appointment is just a goofy rumor and untrue,” Doyle spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner said in an e-mail.

Doyle and his wife, Jessica, were Peace Corps volunteers in Tunisia in the late 1960s. Earlier rumors had Doyle being named to a Cabinet post or as ambassador to Ireland.

Doyle, who has had to manage a $6.6 billion deficit in the budget that is expected to pass the Legislature Friday, has been raising funds for his re-election in 2010. He’s facing challenges from Republicans Scott Walker, the Milwaukee County executive, and Mark Neumann, a former congressman.

6. Yep. I saw the "not true" report, but posted anyway because I thought
Doyle would have been chosen earlier than now for Obama's cabinet. He was an early supporter of Obama nationally and I just was surprised he hasn't been tapped yet.

Lawton is a very attractive choice to lead Wisconsin. I hope this all happens fairly soon.
