Sort of wish I was 7 year old just for a day .
I could then go back about a thousand years and find peace and comfort coloring easter eggs and wait for my grand parents to stop by with the easter baskets for me and my two sisters and long gone younger brother instead of thinking about this madness I am stuck in today . Just one day that's all .

If we had children then we could get the satisfaction of watching them enjoy these small things .

I was never into the religous aspect just the blind tradition as a child .

1. Just imagine you are a Republican for the day -- Next best thing.
And past the flippant answer, I fully understand your sentiment -- but as they say, you can never go home again...

2. the poem:
"Backward, turn backward O time in your flight
Make me a child again, just for tonight."

Holidays always are bitter sweet, eh? My happiest times were in the bosom of my mother's family, with seventeen cousins, New England grandparents, and all the assorted bustling aunts and war-marked uncles.

A song lyric comes to mind: "They can't take that away from me" -- meaning, the memories may be all we have left, but we can go to them and live in them any time we wish.

Peace to you.

3. Your post jerked me way back, blues90.

I needed that.

7.  Tears are good . No doubt about that .
I went way back today , I guess there is more to this than just the knowledge that easter is here , there seems to be an internal clock for each season and it goes off .

I remember going to relatives that lived in Chicago and there were still leafs on the sidewalks and cool air at this time of the year . The crunch of the leafs and the rustle , there was a special smell in the air I'll never forget brought on by the slight cool breeze .

I miss Chicago so much although things have changed there so much , living in southern calif there is not much difference between seasons .

Schools back then made great efforts to bring the holiday spirit up , a community of excitment looking through the large windows of the class rooms .

4. Do you know the song "Blue Prelude"?
It ends...

Here I go
Now you know why I'm leaving
I got the blues
What can I lose

Goodbye

My sister used to play that record when I was a sad young teenager back in the 50s...can't recall just now who the singer was, but I'll never forget the sad, sad feeling that overcame me every time I heard it. Even so, I find myself wishing I could go back there with my long-gone sister and weep together as we used to.

Don't know why your post brought this to mind...I've enjoyed Easter Egg hunts through the years with siblings, children, grandchildren...this is the first year in awhile that won't happen.

And yet all I can focus on is "Blue Prelude" and memories of my sister.

Sometimes the angst is just too much to bear!

Blessings.

8.  I don't remember the song
I do understand and relate to what you are feeling now . It seems the older one gets makes the past a bit more painful to recall .

I still can't get past the fact that my parents and my younger brother are gone . It just suddenly hits me during these times of the year .

5. I wish like that - but the grandkids are a pleasure - but as my dad said - the
grandkids will not remember you - only the gifts you gave them.

Depending on others having memories of you does not work for me - no matter how much I want it to - and I do really, really want them to have positive memories of me.

I try to be "in the now" but often just feel stuck in the "madness". Which is why I got a another dog recently - I'm reaching the end of the period where I can easily care for him - and I will no doubt die before him so I've made arrangements for his care - but a dog lives in the now - and it is impossible to stay too depressed for very long with a friend that keeps saying "let's play".

6. No children of your own? Borrow some.
There are lots of children around, in day cares and schools, who have no "enrichment activities" like the ones you speak of. You ever consider helping them out with them?

At least you seem to have the capability of doing things. I don't have a schedule that lets me deal with normal people during normal-people hours. Anything I contribute has to be money or supplies, with the actual work being done by someone else, and my contribution is vicarious.

I would love to volunteer for events like serving Christmas dinner to the homeless, even if it was on behalf of a church or organization I don't deal with. Just the idea of providing some kind of support to people in need would give me a good feeling.

9. You can share mine.
My curly-haired monster (seven year old girl), my high school girl, my college freshman boy, and I all dyed eggs tonight.

Here's the picture:

From left to right, they're mine, the boy's, the high schooler, and the little one's. The flaming cross was constructed by our resident atheist. It really has no meaning other than we all can't figure out why we color eggs to celebrate Easter. (My other half is actually quite religious; she helps get things ready, but has yet to ever dye an egg.)

Here's the little gift curly left for the Easter bunny.

I'll set out an Easter basket for all the kids tonight. I sent our kid who's away at school an Easter goodie bag.

blues90 -- I'll be getting a chocolate rabbit that I don't want. You can have that, too.

10. And you'd still be more mature than President Bush.

(Sorry, I know that's not what your post is really about. I hope you find the peace and comfort you are looking for, my friend.) :hi:
