Why not allow recommendation of any thread ...
... that has remained on the first page of its subforum since it was posted or that is no more than 48 hours old, whichever is longer? Then threads in relatively slow-moving and infrequently visited sobforums would have a chance of getting onto the Greatest Page even though the threads might not be quickly recognized as worthy of recommendation.

1. Good idea
Quite a few posts in GD or GD-Politics would be more appropriate in a subforum. I assume the authors disdain the more specific location because fewer people will see the posts there. Your suggestion might reduce that problem.
