On the Ranch, Bush Has a Perfect Escape
By BEN FELLER

CRAWFORD, Texas -- President Bush's getaway in central Texas is just about everything Washington is not. There may be no better way to explain why he loves it so much.

Life is remarkably different here for a president struggling through his second term. He can slip out of sight for days, as he has since he arrived Wednesday.

--snip--

"Sometimes, you just have to be by yourself," said Bill Johnson, owner of the Yellow Rose souvenir shop at the one-light crossroads in Crawford. "You've got to get out of the rat race, get some peace and quiet. He can just go and sit by the lake and hear the owls."

--snip--

Bush has spent part or all of 409 days of his presidency on the 1,600-acre ranch, according to CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who keeps meticulous records of Bush's travel.

--snip--

Plenty of messes await him. Congress has set up a showdown over Iraq war spending and is getting ready to grill his attorney general over the bungled firings of eight U.S. attorneys.

"Politics is politics," said Johnson, the store owner. "We're not involved in that stuff."

Neither is Bush, when he comes here. On the ranch, he can clear away all the brush he wants.

His choice of hats in photo ops does not make it a ranch.

6. I can't recall my folklore, but doesn't hearing an owl have some kind of
"meaning" to those who are wise in the ways of such things?

I think a crow on the bedstead meant something as well, death to someone in the house or some such thing.

In any case, he better watch out, rodents and other vermin are high on the list for the owl diet...:)

9. There is the folk lore that if you hoot back to the owl,
you'll have a run of bad luck. Nothing tragic, but unpleasant.

13. You're welcome.
Native Americans believed that owls had the gift of prophecy. "Whooo, George. If you think you have troubles now ... whooooo."

George is not a hypocrite. He just believes that the finer things in life should be reserved for the elite.

Bohemian Grove - hangout for members of some of the world's finest darkside occult cabals, including members
of Commander AWOL's own beloved Skull & Bones occult cabal.

What are you doing boys?

And what would Jesus do ? Would he also party down at a Skull & Boner Beohemian Grove shindig?

Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 10:52 AM by librechik
I doubt it. He's not that kind of crazy. He's the kind of crazy guy who sits by the lake listening to the owls, and congratulating himself on what a fabulous life he has. Then sneaks a pull out of his secret vodka flask. Then he smirks around suspiciously wondering if anybody caught him at it. He feels like firin somebody tonight. Burp.
