Bush Almost Blows Himself Up, Ford CEO Saves Him. Ford Stock To Plummet
Do you remember hearing the joke that was making the rounds after Hurricane Katrina, where it was asked whether if you saw President Bush drowning and being swept away by a rising tide of water? Would you use color film for its graphic presense or B & W for the realism? Well, this story is something like that.

Plug It In, Fire It Up, Mr. President

Credit Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally with saving the leader of the free world from self-immolation.

Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford's hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week. Ford wanted to give the Commander-in-Chief an actual demonstration of the innovative vehicle, so the automaker arranged for an electrical outlet to be installed on the South Lawn and ran a charging cord to the hybrid. However, as Mulally followed Bush out to the car, he noticed someone had left the cord lying at the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank.

"I just thought, 'Oh my goodness!' So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front," Mulally said. "I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?"

1. wtf is a "hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid" ?
An enviro-buzz-word generator?
No offense, DeSwiss :hi:

4. Hmmmm....
...now that you mention it. Maybe they want to have enough of these cars to blow up so we'll all go running back to gasoline engines? That way they'd knock out the electric-car and hydrogen-car people in one fell swoop.

Naw, that's too ingenious for this lot. It requires foresight and planning. Two characteristics we KNOW that they do not have....

13. I think you know already.
A lot of y'all on this fine board have been wanting Toyota to create a "plug-in hybrid" version of the Prius. The idea here is to be able to charge the car's batteries on off-peak electricity. Also, if the batteries were even bigger you could drive around town for a hundred miles or so before the engine started, which would force us to devise a new specification for fuel efficiency--you can't exactly call it "miles per gallon" when you fill up once every four months whether it needs it or not.

And another lot of y'all really like the idea of hydrogen-powered cars. (These two groups intersect--a lot of hydrogen people like plug-in hybrids too.)

So...why not combine the two ideas in one car? Build a plug-in hybrid and run the engine off hydrogen? Sounds like a good idea to me.

And a reasonably safe idea, just so long as they don't sell one to George Bush.

2. So let me get this straight...
Ford has designed a hydrogen car that EXPLODES if you accidentally do something trivial. Call it the Pinto II.

5. Well it seems...
...that Ford wants to make a big noise in hydrogen cars. This ought to do it.

10. No - it was a photo op plug.

Nothing really to do with the car.

BTW, I've had nothing but great luck with my Fords - so has my whole family. My father still has his 1987 Mustang and it's in great shape. My Mom still has her 1987 Ford Escort - it needs some minor work, but, hell, it's got more than 300,000 miles on it (it still runs, though) and my last Mustang - a 1995 - didn't even need new brakes until it was 10 years old.

I just, last summer, got a new Mustang and expect it to hold up as well as all my family's other Fords.

It's a myth that foreign cars are more dependable, now. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, that was true, but, now, with Toyota holding the record for the most recalls - eh... not so much.

12. Plugging the cord into the hydrogen tank is NOT trivial
The port for the hydrogen nozzle is apparently in the back of the car; the connector for the electric cord is on the front quarterpanel. The two would look nothing alike--they're probably just using a regular socket for the electricity so you can get a contractor-grade extension cord from Home Depot or somewhere to charge it. You would have to be a grade-A complete idiot to attempt to plug an extension cord into the hydrogen filler.

It's pretty sad when the president of the United States really is a grade-A complete idiot.

3. Bit of a design flaw there
Bush isn't the only person dumb enough to make that mistake. The headline might as well be "Ford CEO admits new car is fireball waiting to happen, denies design code-name was 'Super-Pinto'".

6. Well,
"Bush isn't the only person dumb enough to make that mistake."

Yeah but if Bush makes the mistake it's different.

Let Providence do what we seem unable to. I can live with that....

7. Near the fuel tank it says "HYDROGEN" and it has no receptacle for an electrical plug
Does Mulally think Bush is that dumb, or is he trying to act as if he is some sort of hero? ... or did he just want to touch Bush?

17. Look at who is adverstising in the Google ads on this web page
SAVE 10% to 50% FUEL COSTS
WITH HYDROGEN.
Make your car a HYBRID! Fast and Easy with The HydranOx 5000 the fuel combustion enhancer.
HydranOx 5000

Unveils its latest fuel saving device!

The little black box
Renewable Energy
Save BIG at the pump, While greatly reducing greenhouse gases coming from your vehicle

The HydranOx 5000 has been specifically designed to fit all V-6 and V-8 Engines, including light diesel trucks.

HydranOx 5000 feeds your engine hydrogen (over 30 cubic inches an hour).

Not the dangerous mix of hydrogen and oxygen that the competition uses.
The hybrid fuel is the HydranOx 5000 as it separates the hydrogen and oxygen.
More on that later.

Here is some info about hydrogen the renewable energy

www-formal.stanford.edu/jmc/progress/hydrogen.html

---------------------------- Bullshit removed ----------------------------------------------------

So What Exactly Is The HydranOx 5000?

It is a simple and extremely efficient energy producing device. You can all remember science class where two wires were placed in a glass of water and when electricity was applied bubbles started forming on the wires. This reaction is called electrolysis. Passing electricity though water has the effect of breaking the water down into its two components, hydrogen and oxygen. The HydranOx 5000 is a hydrogen generator with a unique difference. The HydranOx 5000 is the only hydrogen generator on the market that separates the hydrogen and the oxygen before they combine and it directs the hydrogen to your engine.
...more bullshit...
