Eavesdropping neighbors - don't they have anything better to do?
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 03:30 PM by shance
I have some terrific neighbors who I love.

I also have some other neocon type neighbors who over the years have had a rather overactive interest in my day to day activities, and seemingly my political views. I had one neighbor literally tell me she didn't like me anymore because I supported Governor Dean on the 2004 election. When she told me that, I thought she was kidding. Um, apparently not. I think she is friends with these older two men on my block who seem to always know when Im coming and going. Really. Gladys Kravitz has nothing on these guys.

Yesterday I was talking to new lawn people and Ken one of the dynamic eavesdropping duos, came outside, apparently just to stand and look out at the street while I'm sure his black dog was wondering what the heck they were doing just standing there. It was clear from a neighbor whom I was talking with and myself, that he was painstakingly trying to hear what I was saying to my new lawn maintenence people.

What is so interesting about my lawn to Ken? I would think my politics would be more interesting to him because he and the neighbor directly across from him do not seem to like my politics at all, whatever that means. But what is so interesting about my lawn people?

I guess I should add there have been interesting encounters with his lawn people who work for the neighbors who seem to be snooping around my house as well.

Oh well. Could be "just my magination". But for some reason, I don't think so.

What is so interesting to these men that I am doing?

1. IT sounds like it is time for some street theater. Have someone wear a
grey overcoat and a grey Fredra. Let them come by and make a switch with their bag for yours.
Then talk about plan "X".
Is it on track?
Are all the pieces in place?
Are we ready to exploit the advantage it will give us?

Then look over your shoulder and "notice" them listening and scurry off to your next meeting.

Continue add salt and stir as necessary until their RW heads explode.

5. Ooh those crazy right wingers
I like your idea, start passing empty suitcases. They'll probably call the Feds, so you can make them all look like an ass.

6. LOL! The trenchcoat. What a great thought!
Hadn't thought of that.

I believe that may cause some explosions***

Neocons love to make anything explode it seems.

22. You could put a bunch of those "Rattle Snake Egg" envelopes in them.
Give the kids in the front a good view of the bomb squad jumping.

2. I don't discuss politics with my neighbors ever and if someone was trying to listen
in i would call them on it, "Come on over, have a beer".

7. Absolutely. I don't talk politics per se, but I try and talk what is happening in the world.
However, those who want to talk are usually those who actually want to KNOW what is happening.

It's been my experience.....

3. Doesn't need to be close to hear you.
Was he listening to music on some headphones? People can be way far away from you and hear evey single word with spy gear. Sells for $20.

8. That's comforting. What is interesting is I have nothing to hide, however they seem to.
In what they are doing and more importantly perhaps, WHY they are taking the time to eavesdrop on us.

Isn't THAT illegal? What are they trying to do?

And who's paying them, if they are being paid by the way?

Why the desire to spend so much time listening to others?

30. Some people have a limited scope and live in suspicion of everyone
around them. Lots of Repukes like that. It feeds their fear. Just like the TV.

4. you are "the other"
The listening, which I don't doubt is going on, going by your description, is a form of intimidation.

I like the grey fedora approach. You could have some real fun with this.

And in the world of activism, fun is always welcome!

13. My mum once had neighbours like that
They were obsessed with trying to get her to cut down her 'fur' trees, as their notes always spelled it, and were paranoid that a fir cone or needles might drop on their car (even though they had lots of places to park well away from the fir trees). The 'fur' trees had been there long before they bought the house.

14. LOL! Neighbors are like family aren't they? Worried about things that often aren't their concern.
Actually, stopping perpetual war should be their concern, but perhaps they have made me the problem, instead of those who are using our taxpayer money to profit off of an apparent endless war.

Dunno. They seem more concerned with who's mowing my lawn.

15. They just want to know what you're building in there.
http://www.purelyrics.com/index.php?lyrics=uiawnnxj

What's he building in there?
What the hell is he building
In there?
He has subscriptions to those
Magazines... He never
Waves when he goes by
He's hiding something from
The rest of us... He's all
To himself... I think I know
Why... He took down the
Tire swing from the Peppertree
He has no children of his
Own you see... He has no dog
And he has no friends and
His lawn is dying... and
What about all those packages
He sends. What's he building in there?
With that hook light
On the stairs. What's he building
In there... I'll tell you one thing
He's not building a playhouse for
The children what's he building
In there?

Now what's that sound from under the door?
He's pounding nails into a
Hardwood floor... and I
Swear to god I heard someone
Moaning low... and I keep
Seeing the blue light of a
T.V. show...
He has a router
And a table saw... and you
Won't believe what Mr. Sticha saw
There's poison underneath the sink
Of course... But there's also
Enough formaldehyde to choke
A horse... What's he building
In there. What the hell is he
Building in there? I heard he
Has an ex-wife in some place
Called Mayors Income, Tennessee
And he used to have a
consulting business in Indonesia...
but what is he building in there?
What the hell is building in there?

He has no friends
But he gets a lot of mail
I'll bet he spent a little
Time in jail...
I heard he was up on the
Roof last night
Signaling with a flashlight
And what's that tune he's
Always whistling...
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?

We have a right to know...

20. I'll trade ya your neighbor for our neighbor
We have clueless redneck who keeps old trucks and mows his lawn only twice during the summer but does it on a riding mower the size of a Hummer. He has a herd of feral cats. Once he shot a deer in his yard out of season and left it to rot--he meant to get around to doing something with it. We try not to get downwind of him because he doesn't bathe either.

21. I have one of those. Everytime a car pulls up in the driveway she has
to empty the garbage. I often have out of town company for the weekend. They drive up, her flood lights go on. If I am carrying something into the house, like the TV I just bought or if a delivery or repair truck pulls up, she has to let the dog out. She's just plain nosy.

32. Not as bad as mine
They have cameras mounted to their roof and a little bank of tv's in their basement to watch them on. I'm not kidding. They are actually proud of this. The spy system even has audio. They also have a file folder for every house on the block. I don't know what is in the folders. They complain non-stop about everyone and everything and turn people in for the slightest infraction like parking too close to your own driveway for instance.

The bad news is that these people are Democrats who act like Freepers. Weird people.

They scare me.

23. You should introduce the neighbor to your yard man next time.
Seriously, take the lawn guy over to Ken and introduce them and mention you noticed Ken going out of his way to pay attention and thought he might be interested in a really good lawn service.

That will put a stop to it overnight -- of course they will hate your guts AND mistrust you but......

28. I have been questioned "If I had needed something?" while walking my dogs
My dogs like kids. They like watching kids. Especially kids playing with a ball. So as I am walking them they will park their asses down to long-neck the kids play a game for a while. I usually just let the pups enjoy themselves watching for a while as I smoke a cigarette and catch some fresh air and sun. I am not being nosy or trying to listen to anyone. Just killing a few minutes. You may be running into a similar situation?

Don
