Huckabee questions Romney hunting claim
GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney was wrong to suggest he was a lifelong hunter even though he never took out a license, campaign rival Mike Huckabee said Sunday.

"I think it was a major mistake," said Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor. "It would be like me saying I've been a lifelong golfer because I played putt-putt when I was 9 years old and I rode in a golf cart a couple of times."

"I think American people are looking for authenticity," Huckabee added. "Match their record with their rhetoric."

A message left Sunday with a spokesman for Romney was not immediately returned.

2. Local news picked that up: Huckabee says Romney wrong to claim he was lifelong hunter
WASHINGTON -- GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney was wrong to suggest he was a lifelong hunter even though he never took out a license, campaign rival Mike Huckabee said Sunday.

<snip>

On Sunday, Huckabee said Romney's comments undermined his credibility as a candidate.

If Romney is a life-long hunter, then I am a life-long golfer.

I played putyt-putt golf at least three times.

Plus I was the manager of my high school J.V. Golf Team. That means I collected everyone's practice scores and entered them into VisiCalc, and then walked along the course each day with the coach while we went over the spreadsheets together.

4. Ridiculous... simply ridiculous
Edited on Sun Apr-08-07 03:56 PM by hlthe2b
I don't have problem with hunting (although I do believe in doing so fairly {i.e., no semi-automatics, swooping down out of low-flying planes over coyotes on the open plains, no night hunting with blinding spotlights, no release of over-fattened, slow-flying captive birds on game farms, etc.} and I believe in making use of the animal you kill.

THat having been said, all this bragging about how many and how big the animals you killed in your lifetime--as somehow a measure of your worth as President-- Good God... How frigging ridiculous.

5. no repuke will ever get my vote.
But, I suspect Huckabee might be an honest Repuke with less than neocon credientals. He might help in keeping the repukes striaght.

6. I have never in my life heard small game hunting refereed to as
rodent hunting. A person may hunt rabbits, squirrel and birds. I have heard of people call groundhog or coyote hunting varmint hunting. But who the hell says they hunt small rodents, "What a Dick-head".
