Quote from movie, Judgment at Nuremberg, shows why Alberto Gonzales must go.
"this trial has shown that under the stress of a national crisis, men - even able and extraordinary men - can delude themselves into the commission of crimes and atrocities so vast and heinous as to stagger the imagination."

These comments were from the American tribunal judge, Dan Haywood, played by Spencer Tracy. He was speaking about a German judge, who some Germans still respected as a man who sought justice.

The two have a final exchange:

Janning: Those people, those millions of people... I never knew it would come to that. You *must* believe it, *You must* believe it!

Judge Dan Haywood: Herr Janning, it "came to that" the *first time* you sentenced a man to death you *knew* to be innocent.

Alberto Gonzales can not even be considered an extraordinary man because of his now famous lie. If anything, Gonzales should see this as an opportunity to save himself from the catastrophic arc his life has taken. He has already enabled torture. For Gonzales, it has already come to something awful. He can only harm himself as he tries to help Bush.

1. Hollywood has purer morals.
If he is not viewed as a traitor, there are sinecures, there are places he can be put to live a wealthy life, he and his family. There's that.

Telling the truth? Prison. Immortal disgrace. He failed under the scrutiny of history. That he could redeem himself by coming completely clean? He would have to know what clean is. He does not.

3. The rest of your opening quote is
"There are those in our country today, too, who speak of the protection of their country.....of survival.. the answer to that is - Survival of what?

This country isn't a rock and it isn't an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult."

What does America stand for?

The question of responsibility and justice has been on my mind for a while now. Will it be enough to impeach Bush/Cheney? Can we go forward to find and prosecute -all- who bear responsibility for the 'vast and heinous' crimes of this administration and the Neo-Con radicals? Where does responsibility begin? In 2000? In 2001? In 2003? Or before?

I refuse to believe that those who are guilty of selling out this country and it's citizens; of sending our troops to their deaths for a lie; of lying and attempting to cover-up even worse crimes...can be allowed to walk away without major consequences. I don't know or completely understand the law and can not speak to the realities of investigation, indictment or impeachment for ALL who are involved.

Considering that the significant and wide spread poison of corruption already revealed is most likely just the 'tip of the iceberg' - is it still possible for the truth to set us free?

INVESTIGATE IMPEACH INDICT IMPRECATE INCARCERATE IMPALE INCINERATE :patriot:
