Racial slurs - directed at Obama Children - despicable
Edited on Sun Jul-12-09 12:00 AM by WillieW

Racism is alive and well.

The photo of U.S. President Barrack Obama's daughter Malia, wearing a peace-symbol t-shirt touched off a storm of epithet-laced comments on the conservative 'Free Republic' blogPhotograph by: Remo Casilli , Reuters"A typical street whore." "A bunch of ghetto thugs." "Ghetto street trash." "Wonder when she will get her first abortion."

These are a small selection of some of the racially-charged comments posted to the conservative 'Free Republic' blog Thursday, aimed at U.S. President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter Malia after she was photographed wearing a t-shirt with a peace sign on the front.

The thread was accompanied by a photo of Michelle Obama speaking to Malia that featured the caption, "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds."

Though this may sound like the sort of thing one might read on an Aryan Nation or white power website, they actually appeared on what is commonly considered one of the prime online locations for U.S. Conservative grassroots political discussion and organizing - and for a short time, the comments seemed to have the okay of site administrators.

Moderators of the blog left the comments - and commenters - in place until a complaint was lodged by a writer doing research on the conservative movement, almost a full day

5. Some may have missed that. I did, and appreciate the post. One
wonders if there were multiple posts re Susan Boyle and her shyness, Michael Jackson and his dying, Sarah Palin and her outrage re Letterman, etc. I suspect there were. I'll bet if one were to look diligently, multiple posts re 'rec/unrec' can be found - in some cases multiple threads started by the same author.

6. I want this article to stay on the Greatest all week.
I don't care how many times it gets posted. It needs to be there as long as possible.

10. I wanted to believe Obama's election would make racism ebb.
Obviously I was ridiculously wrong.

14. His election shows that racism has ebbed amongst those for whom there was ever any hope of
human decency developing. Those who are left may just be too hardcore to ever evolve past their lizard brain cage.

Actually, despite being a pretty pessimistic person, I may have overstated that. There are still those who come from racist upbringings who will eventually manage to overcome that ignorance. If only we could get the others to stop reproducing!

11. Racism with a heaping helping of misogyny thrown in
typical.

They really can't wrap their heads around anything even slightly different from their white male selves.
