Budget accord reached

By Shane Goldmacher and Evan Halper Reporting from Sacramento
7:02 PM PDT, July 20, 2009
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders announced today that they have reached a deal to close California's $26.3-billion deficit and begin paying all of the state's bills again.

The agreement does not include any broad-based tax increases, they said, and relies largely on deep cuts in government services to wipe out the deficit.

5. So we have a republican budget - I do hope that when the state goes even deeper
in the crapper the rwers will have the honesty and intestinal fortitude to admit they were wrong. (But I won't hold my breath)...

6. Isn't this why you Californians recalled Gov. Gray Davis? And Schwarzenegger gets a pass?
Wow.

The media just piled on Davis during his recall.

Arnold would run for President if he could.

9. Looks like Californians and Californian politicians are willing to do anything but the right thing
Namely get rid of Prop. 13 and generate some revenue that matches the amount of services that are provided.

It continually amazes me how people have always thought that California is some sort of liberal paradise, yet their politicians and government are way right.

11. Yes, why do none of these idiots over there want to get rid of Prop 13?

Wouldn't that help?

I live CT, by the way. Our property taxes have always been high but we survive.
