JOHN EDWARDS PLAN: "requiring all American residents to get insurance"
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 11:47 AM by denem
(from his official site)
The first candidate to give Private Insurers the MANDATES they wanted. (Hillary was the second).

Edwards three conditions:

*Requiring businesses and other employers to either cover their employees or help finance their health insurance.

*Making insurance affordable by creating new tax credits, expanding Medicaid and SCHIP, reforming insurance laws, and taking innovative steps to contain health care costs.

*Creating regional "Health Care Markets" to let every American share the bargaining power to purchase an affordable, high-quality health plan, increase choices among insurance plans, and cut costs for businesses offering insurance.

Now you tell me how different that is from the congressional debates going on now. Yes, Edwards supported a Public Option but it wasn't even on the front page! http://johnedwards.com/issues/health-care/

Edwards talked tough but as usual it was a slight of hand. No insurance companies at the table? When the insurance companies did get to the table, their principal demand was: MANDATES! The same mandates Edwards' proposed (negotiated?) first.

John also had a simple way to get his EXACT plan through Congress too - cut off their health insurance until they agreed. Oh wait, he couldn't do that. No he admitted, but i'll use the Bully Pulpit. Oh Wow.

The Man (not his proposals) was a fraud. His plan is still on the table, it's the one that's coming our way NOW. Fortunately or otherwise.

1. How does any of this reduce health care costs in the first place?

18. Doubtful. That would mean insurers would be out 35% and that ain't going to happen.

5. True. But John Edwards isn't in any position to push this now.
So, who do you think is doing it?

Is he some sort of Svengali that has mesmerized Congress and the President to do his evil bidding?

You're looking for a scapegoat in the wrong place.

7. The point is...
The current "reform" is almost a carbon copy of Edwards plan. So, for all the Edward's shoulda, woulda, coulda holdouts who suggested he should of won the primaries to deliver true universal healthcare, they are getting behind the wrong man.

10. If only we had some way to reply directly in the same thread...
Maybe we should ask Skinner to add that feature.

11. Perhaps you should have mentioned that in your OP
and avoided some grief, then.

You assume everyone knows precisely what you're talking about. As far as I was concerned your OP was completely and utterly irrelevant. It still is - but at least now I know why you posted it.

16. Not at all. I referenced a thread..

The OP touches on John Edwards Helath Plan, but does not discuss it. There are other replies on point, but few seem to know what John Edwards Health Plan was. It was worth presenting in it from it's original source. The OP does not lie about John Edwards, others do. and I'm not calling any particular one of them out.
