ONE STRING ATTACHED for war funding compromise with Bush...

I just heard that Bush is demanding a no-strings-attached version of the war funding bill. Unfortunately for Mr. Bush, but good for virtually every living creature outside his cadre of defense oil contractors, he's lost his rubber-stamp congress. Sure, the current crop of democratic legislators often seem no more the vertebrates than the stamp pads were, but that's for a different rant, and frankly I'm fairly happy with most of what the democrats have been able to accomplish so far, war waffling notwithstanding.

So here's the one string Harry Reid and the democratic leadership (is that an oxymoron?) should present to Mr. Bush -- pass the bill with no strings with the proviso that Bush immediately cease and desist the use of "signing statements" to attach his own strings to virtually every piece of legislation he signs. I'd love to see it be retroactive, but I won't be greedy.

"There's your offer, Mr. Bush! Take or leave it. We want - no, demand - our government back!" Oh, if Harry could only say it.
