Bush told French President Iraq was a quest foretold in the Bible
A French Revelation, or The Burning Bush
JAMES A. HAUGHT

Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.

Honest. This isn’t a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.

Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their “common faith” (Christianity) and told him: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…. The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”

This bizarre episode occurred while the White House was assembling its “coalition of the willing” to unleash the Iraq invasion. Chirac says he was boggled by Bush’s call and “wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs.”

4. I am gobsmacked.
I really am. Over 4000 U.S. soldiers dead, many more thousands of Iraqi people dead - because this idiot was crazed and delusional. I knew he was a dunce, yes. I knew he was incompetent, yes. But THIS?
Gobsmacked. I hope this goes viral next week. Dominionist Evangelicals infiltrated our Government all the way to the top - many still hold powerful positions in our Military and in Congress.
I simply cannot think of any greater threat to our entire planet.

10. Truth be told, when I first heard about this on talk radio
it really didn't surprise me - it just confirmed my suspicions and connected a lot of dots (I got much of my news during the early 2000s about the religious right from TheocracyWatch: The Rise of the Religious Right in the Republican Party).

I suppose many on DU and other progressive websites aren't that surprised, either. Maybe that's why not so much news about this is being discussed.

It makes me angry, though, as it did then, and I think we need to be reminded and bring these things back into the lime light. You are right in that many are still a part of our government, and they will continue to be elected and work their way up the chain via grassroots religious right groups. We need to stay vigilant.
