American "Conservative" Christian Movement (aka batshit crazies)

The American Conservative Christian Movement = "What's mine is mine and I'm not going to help some lazy person."

I have been told that repeatedly, almost always verbatim, recently. How delightfully Christian of them. *cough, cough*

The number of American citizens who are far from lazy and have simply fallen victim to capitalism left unchecked (thanks largely to conservatives) through job loss, lack of affordable healthcare, affordable housing, and other failures of the system, is rapidly increasing.

These citizens are invisible to the American Conservative Christian Movement, right-wingers, thumpers, whatever we wish to call them. These citizens are gray, and conservatives -- for the most part -- don't "do" gray. Life is black and white -- literally -- to them. And their whitewashed existence is collapsing; it has been since the 60's.

As their world collapses, they lose almost all trace of genuine humanity they may have once embodied. All that remains is a toxic brew of racism, bigotry and hypocrisy, which results in FEAR, though manifests as pure rage and hatred.

I am not religious, but I feel confident saying that authentic Christians (those who follow the teachings of Christ) would be appalled.

Jesus would be appalled.

Then again, if the bible is to be believed at all, it is rather apparent that Jesus was a liberal, crucified by religious conservatives.

'nuf said.

2. I need to read...

"Elmer Gantry" and "It Can't Happen Here."

Thanks. That's one of my favorite quotes...as sad and infuriating as it is.

:)

4. When I first read "Elmer Gantry", I found myself talking to the book.
You really get sucked into it.

9. Opening of EG: ELMER GANTRY was drunk. He was eloquently drunk, lovingly and pugnaciously drunk.
C'mon! How could you put down a book after that line?

3. You're confused by their name.
I made the same mistake. I thought that because the first six letters of "christian" are "c-h-r-i-s-t", that the things these people say and do have something to do with Jesus Christ, the well-known Savior and Lamb Of God. Fooled me! It's obviously just a linguistic coincidence.

I also found out that jewelry is apparently not worn exclusively by Jews. Words are funny things!

7. Republicans pray to thier God, Ayn Rand
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 07:23 AM by Joe Bacon
Republicans talk the Jesus talk BUT they ALL walk the Ayn Rand Walk. They mutated Jesus into Je$u$ and added a couple more chapters to their Bi-BULL named "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shurgged".

And lets remember those RepubliCON Je$u$ talking points!

I was hungry and you told me to get off my "lazy ass" and work. You didn't care that I was elderly, disabled or orphaned.

I was thirsty and you said the "invisible hand" of the free market would stimulate an entrepreneur to invest in a beverage company that would relieve my thirst.

I was a stranger and you despised me because of the color of my skin or I was gay or lesbian.

I was naked and you had me arrested for lewdness.

I was ill and you told me that I should have bought a better health insurance policy, even though nobody would sell me a policy because of my pre-existing condition

I was in prison and you cheered because it was my third strike.

That's what RepulbiCONs believe. That's NOT what I believe!
