It's true, Kerry is the senior senator from Massachusetts, but ... damn! That's probably the first time he was introduced that way. It had to hurt. :-(

I am certainly not suggesting that Kirk did anything wrong. He introduced Kerry the way he should be - and will be - introduced from now on. It was just so overwhelming to hear it said out loud.

1. You're right: Kirk didn't do anything wrong.
And yes, hearing it made me feel bad.

2. yes, I wasn't to happy to hear that either.
I could tell the way he was talking he was going in that direction. Really didn't want to hear it. Didn't think it was necessary either.

5. i didn't hear it but i think Kerry would preferred to not have "senior"
included in the introduction.

of course that's how he will be referred to at times. but not there and in that way.

6. Not bad, just an emptiness. However, he is and he has my respect
even though I'm not from the state.

7. Emptiness .... that's a good word for it.
It just made the loss even more "real" to me. I know that sounds silly.

Like I said, John Kerry should be introduced that way. It just surprised me when I heard it, though it probably shouldn't have. I guess it's the little things that hit you when you don't expect them to.

9. It was exactly right -
and don't think that Kirk didn't clear that with Kerry beforehand.

It had to be spoken out loud eventually, and what better place than at Ted's memorial service? Ted would have been the first one to stand up and applaud the senior Senator from Massachusetts.............................

11. Like I said in my post, I am not suggesting it was wrong.
It was certainly appropriate - Kerry is now the senior senator.

I was talking about emotion. That's the first time I heard it said out loud. That's the first time I even thought about Kerry becoming the senior senator. It made me feel the loss a little bit more. Funny how things hit you when you least expect them to.

12. Oh, the jolt -
yes, indeed. It hit me, too.

But, we have passages, and I guess it was good to get it over with fast. Like ripping off the Band-Aid, right?

It's the little stuff. The stuff you never expect, that's what gets you.

Cleaning out my late husband's stuff, and getting to his shoes. The shape of his feet.

It stopped me cold.............................................

10. Made my heart drop.
But Kerry is hurting, too. Like the rest of us, but he knew Ted, so I'd cut him a break on that.

13. As I said in my post, I don't think it was wrong.
That wasn't my point. What I meant was, hearing it said out loud for the first time was ... painful. It was just one word - "senior" - and for some reason it hit me and made me think, "Wow ... he's really gone."

I saw that picture of Kerry in another thread. Heartbreaking, isn't it? :-(

14. I know what you mean
it must be hard for Kerry to hear it as well.
