30. I'm using a MAC and we have our problems too.
Washington Post links always open behind whatever page your clicked from, and sometimes a Netflix pop up gets through.

34. How much time fighting viruses is access to those precise programs worth?
Why not switch operating systems, spend time once to train up on other, similar software, and never have to deal with viruses again? I've been using linux for almost 10 years, and read about virus problems like reading about weather remote areas of the world. Why spend your time supporting a stupid, manipulative corporation like Microsoft? I don't get it.

won't run on Ubuntu, correct? So I would have to figure out how to run two operating systems, right?

but running a dual boot system is easy, ubuntu sets it up for you.

And CS2 runs, albeit with bugs.

Emulators are shit to use unless absolutely necessary.

The only reason to run windows I can imagine now is for gamers.

There are good alternatives to every major Windows program.

39. Or you can blow off Photoshop, Quickbooks and Apple and go open source.
Apple is great, but it's expensive.

If you have the bucks, I would not hesitate.

However, there are good, solid, open source alternatives to ALL major applications. With corporate software, you`re still in their trap.

Buy Quickbooks 2009 today and eventually, someone you need to share data with, like your accountant, will upgrade to Quickbooks 2012. There will be no backwards compatibility and you`ll be forced to upgrade too.

Ca`ching!
Ca'ching!

35. Photoshop = GIMP or Inkscape
Quickbooks = Moneydance or KMoney

http://moneydance.com (not opensource, not free but VERY good)

For graphics, I can actually do things in GIMP by following tutorials written for Photoshop.

26. Linux is easier than ever, but see my other comments - Macs are MORE EFFECTIVE.
No emulation gibber to deal with and emulation hampers performance.

6. Here are a set of removal instructions
http://www.softsailor.com/news/6745-how-to-remove-green-av-antivirus-2009-removal-tips-and-tricks.html

And take this as a lesson...never install software from a company you've never heard of, without first researching them. Green AV isn't a virus, it's malware written to take advantage of people who are trying to protect their computers.

7. Try this.
First bring up the task mgr and remove this process…greenav2009.exe

Next do a search for all files and folders using this as the search item…….green2009.exe

When it shows up click finished searching then click on it and delete it by clicking on the delete this file on the folder task pane….

after those are done…empty the trash bin….restart your computer.

9. Unplug your Internet connection and run "system restore"
Edited on Sun Aug-30-09 12:09 PM by tridim
Restore your system to yesterday.

Assuming of course that you're on Windows.

It doesn't always work, but it usually does. I'm amazed that some users still don't even know it exists.

Start>Help>System Restore

25. What Anti-Virus are you running?
Edited on Sun Aug-30-09 01:56 PM by True_Blue_KY_Dem
I use Norton Internet Security.

Try AVG Antivirus. It's free.

Trend-Micro?

And most importantly, do you have a firewall?

If using DSL, it is still necessary to use a firewall.

27. I've used a program called combofix to kill nasty adware/malware.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Combofix has worked well where malwarebyte, superantispyware, ad-aware, search and destroy and other anti-virus programs did not.

38. Malwarebytes -- run it in safe mode if the virus won't let you run it.
My sister had something similar recently, and it wouldn't let her access AV websites or run AV software. I DL'd Malwarebytes and copied it onto a flash drive, booted her PC into safe mode, and installed and ran it. Worked like a charm.
