The fundamental paradigm of health care in the USA is what needs reformed.
Health care should not exist to generate profits. It should exist to help individuals and communities lead fuller more productive lives.

1. Not just health care
by the way, I somewhat object to the idea that as humans our lives are to be measured by how productive we are.

Our economy should be structured to provide the most long-term overall gratification (happiness, love, whatever individuals seek) for the least expenditure of energy and other finite resources.

In many if not all cases the profit driven economy runs precisely counter to this as its sole focus is how to increase consumption, and derivatively profit, regardless of effect on the consumer (Examples: tobacco, Gillette razor blades, McDonalds, Sodas, etc.).

4. I'm totally with you there.
I didn't mean productive in an economic sense, but a cultural human sense.

2. We have the British paradigm of health care-
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 11:16 AM by kenny blankenship
however it is the British paradigm from the 18th century. If you're rich you get unlimited medical care. If you are well off maybe you get care - maybe you get snookered, and if you don't have money, well, trust in God.

It goes with our 18th century form of government.
