1. Excellent post, but note
Note that public shelters for humans in disasters often will not allow pets. That's why when a hurricane hits, you will find me and my cat in my car trying to drive away from the storm, and probably dying together.

2. We learned a good lesson here in SC.
Now we provide shelters that people can go to with their pets, along with shelters that are animal free for those who have allergies/phobias, etc.

5. already did that once. Had to leave my house with my sixteen year
old nearly blind girl dachshund, my elderly little Gretchen. Snuck her into a gym in a bag and we lay on the floor together most of the night until the fucking witch with the Red Cross caught me smuggling her back in after a potty break and told me I had to leave her outside. She was nearly blind, elderly, infirm and helpless and that **OE#*I(#HOIJGIUHGERIUHEWKLAJ&E$Y!!!! WANTED ME TO LEAVE HER OUTSIDE! I told her to fuck herself and we both went out to meet our doom together. Which didn't happen but it could have. I *loathe* the red cross to this day.

4. There are multiple locations that provide shelter for animals during our fires.
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 07:40 PM by kestrel91316
The fairgrounds and Pierce College and such take the livestock, and small animals also have secure locations to camp out at. It's public information on the Cal Fire website, on the incident page for each fire.

Info for this (Station) fire:
Animal Shelters Located at Pasadena Humane Society, Baldwin Park Shelter, LA County Agora Hills Animal Shelter. Mission Shelter will accept small animals. Antelope Valley Fairgrounds will accept all large animals. Pierce College can only accept horses, donkeys and mules. Lancaster Animal Shelter and Agoura Animal Shelter are both accepting small animals.
