My prediction on what Obama will say tomorrow night.
I truly do hope I am wrong in my prediction but I believe his message will be that he will not sign a health care bill unless it includes a public option trigger. The administration does not believe it has the votes in the Senate for a public option but they do believe they can pull off the votes for a public option trigger. With a trigger in the bill it is believed they will at least get a foot in the door towards real health care reform. With a public option in the bill it will be doomed and once again health care reform will go down in flames leaving real health care reform in a shambles and Democrats extremely vulnerable next fall. I repeat: this is not what I want but rather what I believe to be the situation/dynamics at this moment.

2. And the gun is pointed at our heads
We'd be better off with nothing and just letting the system collapse on its own rather than passing a bill intended to prop up a failing system while doing nothing to improve access to care.

11. It will collapse even with these plans.
Mandating health insurance does nothing to stop the real problem which is spiraling health care costs. RomneyCare ,for example, is collapsing already.

Here is a good article about costs:

5. Well, then...
...if there is to be a trigger on the public option, there should be the exact same trigger on any individual mandate. Unless there's a public option, people shouldn't be required to buy insurance or get fined for the "privilege" of remaining uninsured.

I remember back in the campaign, when Obama was opposing Clinton's individual-mandate proposal, he said he first wanted to make health care affordable, then think about making it mandatory. How did we get to the point where the apparent "solution" will be to make it mandatory, then think about making it affordable sometime in the indefinite future?

7. Trigger? The only purpose a triggering mechanism will provide is more time for repukes
to measure dimensions for a knotty pine box they're going to bury the final health care reform bill; which might I add, pretty well guarantees the corporate insurance gangsters a continued fleecing, profiteering & rape of the current health care system for years to come.

8. I circulated the MoveOn email encouraging that we tell Obama we dont' want a trigger
Hardly anybody seemed interested, so I have to assume that DUers are happy with a "trigger" :eyes:
