What my daughter learned today:

is basically that adults are idiots. At 13, it wasn't really difficult to convince her, but all the crap flying around about Obama's speech would have been enough at any age.

At her school it was necessary to get a special permission slip to go watch the speech and the window of opportunity was pretty slim. Apparently only about 10 kids got permission to watch, and she wasn't one. All the kids heard about it though, and the "study hard, stay in school, be nice, wash your hands" message was well understood. What wasn't understood was the uproar in the adult world...

Her thoughts were that if a person was good enough to be elected president, why was it such a big deal that he should do a speech to kids? And since its a public school run by the government, why can't the leader of the government talk to the kids?
