*** Obama's three audiences:
*** Fixing the public option fetish: But the speech also will be a failure if progressives -- Obama’s second audience tonight -- are still obsessing over the public option a week from now. We've said this before and we'll say it again: Obama never made the public option the focus of his health-care ideas, in the primaries or in general election. In fact, he never uttered the words "public option" or "public plan" in his big campaign speeches on health care. But there is no doubt that the public option has fired up the left, and how he sells them near-universal coverage and lower costs -- even if it means no public plan -- could very well be the trickiest part of tonight's speech. Indeed, that the White House allowed this to become the be-all, end-all on the left ("Public option or die!") remains a mystery. On TODAY this morning, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that “there can be no reform without adequate choice and competition,” but didn’t say that choice and competition had to come from a public option.
This is SO insulting, so dismissing, and so demeaning...I am so angry I can't see straight. Reducing the PUBLIC'S SUPPORT (not the 'left' mind you, but the MAJORITY, as polls show a HUGE percentage of Americans support the public option) to a FETISH is a new low, even for Chuck Todd and band of mindless corporate mouthpieces.
Well, Mr Todd & gang, let me tell YOU something.
While you are out there covering the lunatic fringe freaks shouting down health care debates and carrying signs that state 'keep government out of Medicare', you are missing the real story. You see, the American people have had ENOUGH. We are angry. We are more then angry. We are furious.
If you think that the 'liberals' (ie MAJORITY) will just let the public option be sold out for the benefit of corporate profits, then you are even more clueless then I thought. This is a LINE IN THE SAND moment. The Public Option was the compromise, a compromise we NEVER EVER should have made, it being the only true solution to this private insurance nightmare. However, people realize that change doesn't always happen quickly, so we were willing to take a step towards the solution. If the dems abandon us on this policy, they will have awoken a sleeping giant that will be the beginning of the end for the corporatist DLC and all the DINO congresspeople who campaign for the people, and then stab them in the back the second they take office. If they won't represent us, our money, our votes, our time & energy are FAR better served in fighting for a true progressive movement for the people. We have absolutely nothing left to lose.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Private health insurance companies, the leeches that profiteer off human illness provide not a single medical service. They provide NO savings or benefit over a government run insurance companies (Medicare provides administration at nearly 100% less cost then the private insurance companies). In sum, we don't need them. They are waste. They are leeches. Human health should come before corporate profit. Illness should not be a commodity to be bought and traded on Wall St, but a human right.
Yet, this entire health care reform 'debate' has centered around not only keeping this corrupt and immoral system in place, it has been about expanding it. Insurance companies have been called the 'health care stake holders' (puke) and how many times have we heard the term 'fair & level' playing field to describe how we must create the legislation. It is all about keep the American people at the mercy of the private insurance companies and keeping our health a tradeable commodity. It is DISGUSTING.
And, now, the one component of health care reform that would provide a meager check on the insurance companies is dismissed as some sort of obsessive fetish? HOW FUCKING DARE YOU? The fact that people want some small check on the corporations that are literally bankrupting MILLIONS, even those who are 'covered' by their shitty product is not a fetish. It is a very small expectation for our government to serve the people alongside, if not over the corporations.
FUCK YOU, Chuck Todd and the rest of your mindless talking heads. If you could get your tongue out of the ass of your corporate sponsors, you might clear your line of vision to see that this is the moral issue of our time and hear the the rumbles in the distance. That would be the sound of the people rising up, you piece of shit.
