Dan Lungren... Friend to the Fundies-
Atheists sue to keep 'In God We Trust' off Capitol Visitor Center

WASHINGTON — A California Republican congressman wants to do a little writing on the walls of Washington's newest federal building. If Rep. Dan Lungren gets his way, Congress will spend nearly $100,000 to engrave the words "In God We Trust " and the Pledge of Allegiance in prominent spots at the Capitol Visitor Center .

Lungren's proposal drew only a whimper of opposition last week when the House of Representatives voted 410-8 to approve it. Now, however, Lungren finds himself tussling with a national atheists and agnostics group.

The Wisconsin -based Freedom From Religion Foundation Inc. sued this week to stop the engraving, accusing Lungren of trying to force his religious beliefs on as many as 15 percent of all U.S. adults. That comprises "atheists, agnostics, skeptics and freethinkers, none of whom possess a belief in a god," according to the lawsuit.

The rest-

Gary Davis is hoping to challenge Dan Lungren for the Ca3 seat in 2010, with a little help from Duers, we might just get there. Here's his site-

2. Thank you for the kick.
Even though I've always lived just outside the district, Lungren has always pissed me off and I plan to work for anyone running against him as long as I can.

Bill Durston, the Democratic candidate for the last three races, has endorsed Gary as well as most Unions and the Senate Pro Temp. Darrell Steinberg.

5. Here's a kick for an excellent mission, namely to remove the
unthinkably regressed Dan Lungren from the Congress.

I've bookmarked the website and will follow with glee and appreciation.

7. Dan Lungren, deluded and evidently very distractible, must be among
that group of fundie nutbags who want the 10 Commandments and IN GOD WE TRUST plastered on every damn thing there is -- public buildings, school classrooms, sun visors, cereal boxes, family pets, in urinal porcelain, and sprayed by sky writers across the four corners of the heavens.

So Dan. How insecure do you have to be in your faith to require such extensive promotion? If it is the real thing wouldn't it pretty much speak for itself? Maybe you should shut your fundie trap for once and do some honest charity work. Without any cameras or microphones or photo-op crews.

Just show up some place and help somebody.

Absent that chance I think I'll kick this excellent thread that calls you to task and sends a shot across the bow that some of us don't respect your manipulative bullshit.

Mr. Davis and those working to elect him are the ones fighting the good fight.

8. It's going to take some time to program my pea brain to read Gary Davis instead
of Gray Davis. I'll work on it. In the mean time, I look forward to hearing more of Davis in the future. I'm sad Bill Durston chose not to mount a fourth campaign, but I guess enough is enough. I liked and trusted Bill from the moment I first met him.

16. No. Lungren'sdistrict is in the Sacramento suburbs, Herger's district is in Redding.
Redding is three hours drive north, halfway to Oregon.

14. I went to the same catholic school as his nephew ...
which also happened to be the same church he attended. I remember him after the services politicking with the congregants trying to win their votes. I remember my mom calling him "Slimy". It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that he'd be all for merging religion and government, He did it every Sunday. Catholics like him are why I am no longer religious.

17. There was something I couldn't trust about Lundgren when he ran for governor.
Dan Lundgren ran against Gray Davis for governor while I was living and voting in California. Lundgren rubbed me the wrong way during that campaign. He also lost to Gray Davis.
