1. What a ratings jackpot for Leno.
For a guy as talent poor as Jay Leno he sure shits gold.

And you strike me as somebody who didnt like his version of the Tonight show, because its basically the same show

74. I have never cared for his show.
I don't find him funny.

I gave it 10 minutes, that was enough to know that he is still not funny. His monologue sucked.

His monologue was just so hacky!

34. You're behind the entertainment news cycle. And some might consider that
his mother's sudden and unexpected death may have messed him up quite a bit.

But not to worry! Taylor Swift is unharmed and she got her make-up time from Beyonce and a follow-up from Beyonce's dad after the show. It's not like she was physically assaulted.

over this. I've seen a few people on these boards blaming their shitty posting behavior on personal issues.

At the end of the day, the girl has her award and she DID get to say what she wanted to say. I'm not going to angerwank over it when the guy, unlike so many odious people elsewhere in public life, at least made an apology.

and he's lucky as hell Beyonce won at the end and rescued the situation somewhat by being both classy and gracious.

I admit, Kanye and Eminem have always rubbed me the wrong way, because I think they're both such lousy role models for kids (and that's who basically listens to their music.) This isn't the first time he's exhibited this "it's all about me" behaviour. Remember a few years ago when he threw a backstage tantrum because he didn't win when he thought he should?

i've seen some true horrible behavior overcome by spin, pr and a (seeming) heart-felt apology.
dog the bounty hunter is back on the air, is he not? ;)

celeb issues may not seem a big deal to many here, but there's so much we don't see, and are never exposed to. heinous, incredibly stressful crap that would make the most well-adjusted human being feel like they could lose their mind. add to it the loss of someone incredibly important in your life, (and who knows what else)....and well... a person could start walking around w/a big bottel of booze, saying incoherent things, at inappropriate times....etc, etc.. :(

116. lol.
i think it was more about the network than the public. i know of a few that used to watch (finding it mildly entertaining), that don't anymore.

if the show's not on the air, the network producing the show loses money. A&E took it off the air. it remained off the air, for a while (a few months, at least). i guess after he apologized, and a "respectable" length of time had passed (in their eyes), they decided to air it again.

:shrug::spray:

it would serve many to remember this example.
i frequently see comparisons made on this board of,"...if they used the n-word, no one would tolerate that." Um...yeah, in 2009 it's tolerated. life continues, after apologies are made.

it's not the ultimate "non-pc" behavior that many think it is. it still happens, frequently w/little more than a slap on the wrist (sometimes not even that).

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6543390&mesg_id=6543438

maybe this was the beginning of a break-down.

it's unfortunate that it would come in such a way (affecting another young performer's acceptance of an award). but sadly, it's rare anyone can control when or how these things occur. how and when they manifest. if one needs mental/emotional help....they tend to behave inappropriately...and haven't got a clue they are doing so at the time.

if this is the case, i sincerelyhope he gets the help he needs.
i've had enough of seeing entertainers come to untimely demises, because other options were given them (i.e. narcotics, etc.)w/little emotional help--resulting in addictions, overmedicating and eventual death (i.e. heath ledger, michael jackson, etc.).

he's not the first (unfortunately) and doubt he'll be the last...

fits the profile described by dr. drew (the celeb rehab specialist). with fame and wealth, comes opportunity and ease for gaining drugs, alcohol and any other substance they desire (frequently physician prescribed). :(:scared:

anyone else could NOT walk around w/a bottle of alcohol in public. they would go to jail (at the very least be fined).
but a celebrity? no way. he's just seen as partying. :eyes: (sigh)

it's just so sad. they're literally allowed to self-destruct (frequently in public). no one says or does a thing to help(until it's too late)...sometimes not even then.

maybe leno can be helpful.
as a comedian, he's seen it all from colleagues who've self-destructed.

The media and folks on this thread make it seem as if he physically beat the girl on stage. I swear, before I heard exactly what he did I thought he actually slapped her. The entertainment news shows were having a fit. Turns out he had another one of his outburst. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that girl will live.

Human behavior is not black and white. The guy lost his mother, and even before that his behavior was sketchy. I started seeing red flags when he went off on Bush. That was ok for the likes of many on DU because it was Bush. It was not some pretty, young girl. However, that Bush outburst got me wondering about him. He has had many outburst after that and he has displayed even more bizarre behavior after his mother died.

At any rate at least Kanye and the girl can afford top notch mental health care for their anguish. The girl for being publicly embarrassed ( on no whatever will she do). Kanye for his obvious mental issues and perhaps help dealing with the death of his mother.

63. time and again...
...there are examples played out in the media of the fragility of human beings. michael jackson was one....britney spears, lindsey lohan are others. none had childhoods. all spent their young lives striving for fame.

no one is prepared when fame hits them. no one at any age, or period in life.
initially, people tend to behave badly, make mistakes and flounder a bit. who wouldn't? fame is not normal. nothing about it is. it's an extraordinairy situation that many strive for, and fewer still are ever capable of handling perfectly or well.

i shudder to think of the kind of person many may think me, if my teens and twenties had played out under media's glare.

...don't live with people constantly trying to photograph our every move (paparazzi).
if we did, we'd call the police and report them as stalkers.

most of us, aren't recording artists.
most of us, don't know what it's like to be nominated for an award, much less attend an award show.

as such, i don't believe it's appropriate to maintain the same expectations of someone who does all of the above, to the same standards as "the rest of us." people that don't live "like the rest of us", frequently forget the social graces many of us, take for granted daily.

102. Not hardly. They can be invaluable when dealing with someone
with the disorder. I was saying Brittany Spears was bipolar long before Dr Phil got involved. It was clear. I used that with someone I'm close with to point out how being bipolar works and what it looks like to those on the outside looking in. Unfortunately, bipolar is a difficult thing to convince someone they have. But these type moments help illustrate what it looks like.

reading on-line during her breakdown, was downright depressing (no pun intended). so many ready to paint her as anything other than, in need of mental health help.

really made me sad to see.

47. Oh please. I'll acknowledge that most of what he said on Leno was good and appropriate....
...but he lost me with the business about blaming boorish and classless behavior toward a 17 year old kid who did nothing to him or, so far as anyone knows, anyone else, on the fact that his mother died almost two years ago is the act of a weasel, trying to make excuses for himself.

If he has a drinking problem, then that can be at least a partial explanation, but not an excuse. I've lived with alcoholism, watched it kill a man I loved with my whole heart, and I know that making excuses for them, or accepting their excuses, for their actions because of their drinking does them a huge disservice and helps them not one bit. I hope for his sake and for the sake of those who care about him that this will be a sufficient public embarassment to prompt him to deal with it.

I'm no fan of hip hop, but I do recognize his talent. Whether it's booze or something else, I hope that this is his wake-up call and that he takes this opportunity to get his personal act together.

66. forgive me...
...for interjecting here--but there is no time table to mourning, loss, the grief process or the emotional breakdowns that ensue based on people who've experienced such incidents.

people have experienced break downs decades after traumatic events. two years is a short time to the psychological and healing communities.

i mean no disrespect. it's difficult to see so many say things that aren't based on the reality of situations when dealing with such issues (regarding people in pain, emotional disorders, etc.).

take care.

68. No offense, but that's still just a matter of making an excuse for bad behavior.
"My Mother died and I'm hurting so I can act the jackass and spoil a young girl's big moment 'cause I feel so bad." Utter self-serving poppycock.

You're right that grief doesn't abide by a timetable. My Mother died fourteen-and-a-half years ago and Daddy, who was the greatest man I will ever know and my best friend, nine years ago next month and I still ache for them and cry sometimes when I talk about them. That doesn't give me an excuse to mistreat others, though.

And it's not the first time that he's been a prick about an award someone else has won. It's just the most public and eggregious. I'm sure he does feel badly about it, that seemed very genuine to me, but he should have just left it at that. I'd have had a whole lot more respect for him if he had.

i agree, that it is not an excuse for bad behavior. but it may be an underlying cause and/or reason why he finds himself acting out inappropriately. maybe not.

yes, i recall his prior "outbursts."
as i said in a thread on this topic last night, he could have some entitlement issues. certainly not unheard of for entertainers. or he could just be rude.....

i haven't had to live as a famous person. what i've seen of it, doesn't seem like a gig i'd want. it seems to do odd things to people who may be decent human beings when you strip away all their gold records, status, money and possessions.

am i blaming fame, for his behavior? no.
i'm saying that i'm allowing for the fact that there's a human being, buried under the guy who seems to be acting like a petulant child in this moment.

He does it at practically every awards show he's involved in. He was rude long before he lost his mom.

I'm sure he's grieving for his mom.

But he certainly has issues, and needs to get himself straightened out before he goes to the next awards show.

for Kanye. he has rapped that he is pretty much an asshole. There is no cure for this. He has always done something crazy at an awards show. What's new here. The only thing that could be done is to leave his butt at home.

Love ya Kanye but wise up. Just because you think someone deserves a award over someone else does not give you the right to disrupt the show to let the world know how you feel. Put it in a song and move on.

I wouldn't be shocked in the least if he was being prodded with alcohol and "friendly sugggestions" as to how best to get a reaction. MTV KNEW they could get publicity if he pulled yet another stunt.
