BBC: India is 'losing Maoist battle'
India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says his country is losing the battle against Maoist rebels.

Mr Singh told a meeting of police chiefs from different states that rebel violence was increasing and the Maoists' appeal was growing.

The rebels say they are fighting for the rights of the poor.

They operate in a large swathe of territory across central India, and in some areas have almost replaced the local government.

More than 6,000 people have been killed during their 20-year fight for a communist state.

2. Lest we forget...
...India is a nuclear state. So is neighboring Pakistan. If these Communist thugs take over India and start stirring up shit with the Pakistanis over Kashmir or some other controversy, we could have an actual nuclear war on our hands, and hundreds of millions could perish in fire on both sides of the border.

The Indian government needs to get its shit together and put down these Maoist rebels. I'm remembering what the Khmer Rouge did to Cambodia, too.

3. "Maoist," at least outside of China, can mean a whole range of things:
from pure populism to pro-brutality Cultural Revolutions to agrarianism to the Indian new wave of deconstructionist intellectuals; they typically don't care for species other than humans
it also helps their cause when the two major parties are the neolibs and the goose-stepping Hindutva chauvinists...
