No - not the Underwear Gnomes - but say we start seeing RW Paramilitary groups like they have in Columbia, Honduras and Guatemala?

Friends of yours are kidnapped without the police doing anything

People are taken out of their homes and never seen again

The Police uses the paramilitaries to do the dirty work they can't

You may say "That could never happen here!"

That's what folks thought in Chile in 1973. Before Pinochet, Chile was a democracy longer than any other Latin American country. Many people said "No puede hacerlo aqui!" and it hacerlo'd there.

2. Resist, of course.
What else? I don't see that coming, though, in the near future. If it did, though, I could put up a pretty good fight.

For now, though, the tools for that fight remain in the safe.

The fact that Chile has been the blueprint for every bad idea the Republicans had, and when Newsmax openly talks about having a military coup - you get nervous

24. The problem/good thing...
...is that the people who hate liberals enough to actually do this - and there are quite a few of them - are generally older, faltering middle class types who are probably physically incapable of serving in a paramilitary. Think Bill O'Reilly in riot gear.

But I think libs fool themselves when they say it could (or WOULD) never happen. Again - these people, the Fox Nation crowd, loathe you and I enough to do it.

26. It's not the federal government you have to worry about here -
It's the local governments in the pockets of special interests. The small-town sheriff. The local Church, err, County board of Supervisors. The DA and his or her cronies. The "elect" - the hereditary checkbox winner for state or federal representative.
These are the ones who have their power derived from the local political structure, which too often is a feudal entity in nature, either kowtowing to some local "gentry", corporate interest, or church. These entities can command their own private army of fellow-travelers and know-nothings to organize, intimidate, or "cleanse" a district; usually by dis-enfranchisement, disillusionment or outright running the competing entity(be it a business, a political/social organization, or a family) "out of town on a rail".

Disappearances have already happened in this country. Think Rosewood, Florida. Think the many small, rural towns, be they in California, New York, Montana, or the South - where people who try to organize or "do good" in their communities are harassed, convicted in kangaroo courts, forced to move, or murdered.

"It Can't Happen Here" -

Sorry folks, it's already happened here many times. Just on a small, localized scale. The actual nation-wide horror will finally hit when these small time "bosses" are sold the idea that being a big fish in the local small pond is not enough, and can band together long enough to force their short-lived "3rd Revolution/Civil War" on the United States - with, of course the help of the wealthy corporate greedheads that are looking to carve their own personal Kingdoms of Heaven on Earth out of the chaos.

Some f**ks, especially wealthy f**ks, don't want more money, they want power of life or death - they want ultimate control of their own personal environments, to create themselves in the image of their Ghod. If they live in a democracy, they can't have that. So they use their money and their hysteria, and their dedication to their "vision" to destroy democracy that was developed by intelligent, imperfect people who cared to live in a country where equality under the law and government could be for the benefit of the people at large and the minority interests could be protected.
When the United States is broken down into every piss-ant local boss's "Amurikkka", when we become the Somalia of the Western Hemisphere because the blind, pig-people who supposedly represent everyone in their communities decide instead they want to represent the largest pot of money that is waved in their direction, then "It Happened Here"

Haele

27. Record; hide; flee; report. And help others get safe.
My plan would be to document everything, hide till it passes if the danger to myself was not immediate, get over a border as soon as it became immediate, blow whistles from abroad; and do whatever I could along the way to help others who need it get to safety.

Even though I have discovered I have a knack for getting little bits of lead to land where I want them to, I know I don't really have a lot of stamina or strength. I would not make a good Resistance fighter.

I am kind of a doom hobbyist and find some comfort in having a plan for every possible worst-case scenario.

30. shelter me from the powder and the finger

Look out, mama, theres a white boat comin up the river
With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail
I think youd better call john,
cause it dont look like theyre here to deliver the mail
And its less than a mile away
I hope they didnt come to stay
Its got numbers on the side and a gun
And its makin big waves.

Daddys gone, my brothers out hunting in the mountains
Big johns been drinking since the river took emmy-lou
So the powers that be left me here to do the thinkin
And I just turned twenty-two
I was wonderin what to do
And the closer they got,
The more those feelings grew.

Daddys rifle in my hand felt reassurin
He told me, red means run, son, numbers add up to nothin
But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it comin
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why.
Then I saw black,
And my face splashed in the sky.

Shelter me from the powder and the finger
Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger
Think of me as one youd never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love,
I know Ill miss her.

it. it's exciting to you. being vigilant doesn't mean running around like a headless chicken. And no, census workers were not killed in KY. ONE census worker was killed and we don't know yet who did the killing or why. Even if it turns out to be rightwing nutbags, that hardly means the scenario you're panting after is imminent. It's not. We'll see much clearer signs if such a thing were directly on the horizon.

Sure, it can happen here, it can happen anywhere. But seriously Taverner, I begin to worry about you. It appears from your posts here that your teeth have been set on edge. Have you been threatened? Has there been an uptick of paramilitary activity in your neck of the woods?

Take a breath man, things are bad, but they're not that bad, and they might not get that bad either. Sure, if this is a worry for you, then you should make mental notes as to what ought to be done to protect you and yours, but fearing this possiblity is unhelpful, it jaundices every day in which there is no one "coming to get us" and will only lead to mental paralysis in the event that "they" do end up coming.

Blackwater was used on civilians in New Orleans...
The military (full of illegal aliens getting a green card for signing up and people let out of prison if they "serve") has been cleared to use on American streets. (to "assist")

Obama has kept the right Bush gave himself to indefinitely jail anyone he deems a threat.

We all saw the video of the protester kidnapped in Philadelphia by unknown men wearing camouflage.

45. Hmm, why has the NSA been illegally SPYING on everyone?
A more overt implementation of the police state infrastructure wouldn't occur until the chaotic aftermath of a massive False Flag could provide sufficient cover (mass communication breakdown) to distort, as best as they can for a while, what's actually happening. I suspect America is too big to see this suddenly happen on a mass scale - which is why much of it has occurred incrementally - but definitely within certain sectors in the social breakdown of, say, a nuclear, bio or chemical attack that impacts a large area.
