Jesus is their healthcare provider
Christian conservatives in the US support healthcare co-operatives – but only for deserving, like-minded souls

Why do conservative Christians in the US favour healthcare co-operatives? Speakers at the Family Research Council's values voters summit this month unanimously opposed any government-run options, which they believe may lead to "European socialism". But they endorsed collectivism in another guise: health co-operatives. This differentiation is the logical outcome of crass, Christian right exclusivity.

In a session on "Obamacare" at this year's summit, the Galen Institute's Grace-Marie Turner advocated covering the uninsured by "allowing them to get healthcare through …church groups". A public option can be dismissed as it would mean using (good) taxpayer money to provide care for (bad) deviants avoiding responsibility for their moral and sexual choices.

If this seems far-fetched, think again. The "health sharing ministries" of Medi-Share "brings Christians together to share medical bills with one another. … Your healthcare dollars go towards supporting healthy and biblical lifestyles". Each adult member must:

Have a verifiable Christian testimony indicating a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, attend a fellowship of believers, regularly and actively support that ministry and live under the discipline of that body; share the conviction that believers are to bear one another's burdens according to Galatians 6:2; believe the biblical doctrine that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and therefore are to be kept pure; must not engage in sex outside of traditional Christian marriage; cannot use tobacco or illegal drugs in any form, or abuse legal drugs or alcohol; be a US citizen (those serving abroad as missionaries may qualify).

This is why they love co-ops so much....disgusting.

6. This recession is no different. They wnat to take the possessions of all those that lost,
cuz all that lost must have pissed
god off. So, the good christian carpetbaggers should be able to accumulate all those things. Said Santelli. They want all those that screw and curse, to pay for their sins. Never mind that most good christians are FAT. Unexercise oriented. ignorers of their bodies. Them being sinful and all. Christian only organizations are normally good. Cuz most christian, self professed, businesses overcharge for the privilege. I hate superior christians. Go to hell. Said a christian.

15. To quote WS Burroughs:
"If you're doing buisness with a religious son-of-a-bitch, get it in writing. His word isn't worth shit, not with the good lord telling him how to fuck you on hte deal."

If I see the that fishy fish next to a name in the yellow pages, I feel like I've been warned and avoid that buisness.

3. Howard Dean explained early on this summer why these co-ops don't work,
but I forget the reasons. That said, it is very concerning that our civil rights are being denied via the religious right. This discrimination against many members of our country should set this as the no. one reason why these co-ops will not work......

4. Europaean socialism? The HORROR!!! Run for your life!
In fact, government-run public health is also part of mainstream Europaean *conservativism* in most countries. E.g. I'm always amazed that the American Right regard France as the epitome of socialism, when 5 of their 6 postwar presidents were Conservatives.

And though I'm not a Bible expert, I don't think that Jesus ever said, "Whatever you have done for the most profitable of the insurance companies, you have done unto me."

5. This is why charity is flawed
Most of the time it is well-intentioned, but flawed. Charities can pick and choose who they help, conveying the message that this is voluntary assistance being given out of the graciousness of the givers' hearts. In other words, it's not a right, so be grateful you are getting anything.

17. Pick and choose and prosteletyze...
One of the reasons homeless and others would would otherwise qualify slip thru the cracks of charity- they are either of the wrong religion to recieve assistance from the provider, or refuse to sit for a sermon in exchange for their food, shelter, etc. I know some denominations don't enforce belief in exchange for assisatnce, but there are many who do.

not be covered period. Could increase shotgun weddings though.

13. these conservative christians are ruled by greed
the churches' leaders are going to make a profit. Jesus 'would turn in his grave' but I don't think he had one so he will be shking his head and sighing at these people.

16. Wouldn't that divert tithes into health care?
Instead of influencing terrible politicians?

If that's the case, then I think it's a great idea. Hell, I'll become a Jesist myself.

19. They claim they like co-ops.
But what they really like is nonco-operation with most of society in favor of co-ops for their in-group.
