Last spring I bought a ticket to a fundraiser for a woman with colon cancer whose insurance only paid for her surgery, not for follow up chemo, which her doctors said she needed. I paid my $20 and bought several lotter tickets for stuff I gave away. The woman who won the cash in the 50/50 lottery handed her prize money to the cancer patient.
For many years I have seen promotions in news stories for benefits for medical equipment or just outright care of people who have no or limited health care insurance. While good hearted on behalf of the people supporting these events, it is always a sad spectacle of how truly horrible our health care system is.
My question always is: what happens when the money for the chemo or whatever runs out? Do they have to run another benefit? I never saw a repeat benefit so I suspect many of the sick people do just die. What a country...
