Sen. Graham Calls Beck 'A Cynic' And Birthers 'Crazy'

Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R-S.C.) offered unusually blunt assessments of the fringe elements of his party and conservative media on Thursday, calling the popular and bombastic Fox News host Glenn Beck a "cynic" whose show was antithetical to American values.

"Only in America can you make that much money crying," Graham said of Beck. "Glenn Beck is not aligned with any party. He is aligned with cynicism and there has always been a market for cynics. But we became a great nation not because we are a nation of cynics. We became a great nation because we are a nation of believers."

Appearing before a crowd of Washington's elite power players and opinion-makers, Graham spoke largely without filter, offering acidic takes on subject well beyond Beck. The Senator called the birther community that questions the president's U.S. citizenship "crazy" and implored them to "knock this crap off" so the country could get on to more important matters.

"I'm here to tell you that those who think the president was not born in Hawaii are crazy," said Graham, who went on to dispel another myth: that Obama is a closet Muslim.

the damage and destruction they have caused can be remedied - or at least, attempted.

Maybe, if there were no rethugs around to fuck things up, the Dems might show some courage and start to clean up the mess.

4. Here's where he missed

Graham compared the RW crazies to the LW crazies. The difference is there weren't Democrats on the floor of congress promoting batshit crazy theories. So Graham may be correct in that there's fringe nuts on both sides, but the Democrats don't elect those fringe nuts to seats in the halls of the US Congress, and you don't see Democratic members of congress speaking at gatherings of thousands of fringe nuts. For every LW crazy, there's probably hundreds of RW crazies, and they are encouraged and supported by mainstream members of the GOP.

Any republican that has half a brain should be figuring out that catering to the "nuts" isn't going to get them very far. The public sees the republicans as the "nut" party, and that's not good if you want to wind elections. I think more and more of them will start throwing Beck and the nuts who listen to him under the bus in order to distance themselves from that group. Now if they would only stand up to Rush...!

beat the band. He didn't back down, and he didn't apologize.

I will be surprised if he apologizes to Rush or anyone. Graham gets his back up, and that's it.

I hate his politics, but he has more stones than a lot of other Rethugs. Of course, a banana slug has more stones than them too.
