All eyes are on the Senate Finance Committee as it continues to "mark-up" its America's Healthy Future Act. This process of debating, amending and rewriting the long-awaited bill will culminate in a vote - likely by the end of this week - on whether to advance the legislation.
As you may know, this bill does not include a new government-run plan that would cause millions to lose the private coverage they enjoy today. While this indicates that your voices are being heard, it is critical to keep the pressure on because there are several ways a government-run plan could still be slipped into the final Senate bill.
First, the Senate Finance Committee bill will have to be combined with the Senate HELP Committee bill - which includes a government plan - before a vote can be taken by the full Senate. Second, an amendment is likely to be offered to add a "trigger" for a government plan to take effect if certain criteria are not met. The trigger is being billed as a fallback plan, but in reality it is a back-door strategy that would make a government-run plan inevitable.
We need your continued help to urge your lawmakers to keep a government plan out of healthcare reform and instead build on the employer-based system that's already working for more than 160 million Americans. That means opposing any provision that would establish a government plan immediately or make one inevitable through a back-door "trigger."

Who We Are
Get Health Reform Right is a project of organizations whose shared mission is to ensure consumers continue to have access to employer-sponsored healthcare plans. We are concerned about federal legislation that would create new government bureaucracies that would unravel the workplace healthcare system where more than 160 million people get their coverage.
