President Obama and the Public Option: MAKE HIM DO IT! (CredoAction)
DEMAND that President Obama DEMAND a STRONG Public Option with NO "triggers" and NO "co-ops" and that it be given an up-or-down vote in the Senate! LET HIM KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY FOR HIM AND DEMOCRATS IF THEY DO NOT GET THIS DONE AND DONE RIGHT! (well, as "right" as the ninnies are going to do it short of Single Payer).

While the public option can still pass on the floor of the Senate, we won't win this fight if Democrats continue to give bipartisan cover to Republican obstructionism.

As the President of the United States, as a leader of the Democratic Party and as an individual elected by the votes of millions of Americans fundamentally dissatisfied with the status quo, President Obama has tremendous political power to influence Democratic Senators.

Tell President Obama to use that power to ensure that provisions for a public option are brought to the floor of the Senate and given an up-or-down vote.

Remember, President Obama says that he is in favor of a public option to keep insurance companies accountable. In addition, an overwhelming majority of Americans --including a plurality of Republicans according to a recent poll -- supports a public option.

Yet Republicans continue to treat health care reform as a political football and have said that they want reform efforts to fail in order to damage Obama politically. If that's not enough, their absurd and outrageous lies about death panels have demonstrated that Republicans aren't interested in a serious policy debate.

We know that Republicans will do anything it takes to defeat the public option, including using the filibuster in an attempt to prevent the full Senate from considering it. But Republicans lack the ability to sustain a filibuster in the Senate on their own. So any Democrat who joins a Republican filibuster of the public option would be validating and enabling bad faith Republican obstructionism. In doing so, any Democrat who joins a Republican filibuster on the public option will be working to ensure that no meaningful reform passes any time soon.

Add your name to our petition telling President Obama to use his power to ensure that provisions for a public option are brought to the floor of the Senate and given an up-or-down vote.

1. Why do we have to "make" our leaders do the right thing?

2. The FDR approach. Remember Social Security?
A woman asked him why SS wasn't formed yet. He responded to her that he had the banks, the businesses and a host of other enemies against him and that she had to "make him do it".

Obama has said the same about healthcare on many occasions.

3. I'm not going to make him do anything, he
said he would do it, I took him at his word and voted for him. Now I expect him to honor his word. I have done my part by calling my Senators and Congresspeople and letting them know where I stand.

8. I was fortunate enough to talk to Obama
about health care at a campaign stop here in Colorado. I was not the only one talking to him, he is well aware of my health care reform thoughts and others that had a chance to talk to him. I have called and written my Senators and Congresspeople several times, what else can be done? You call it whining, I consider that I have done my part and he doesn't need me to force him to do anything. Want me to twist his arm? I leave that up to key board warriors. I know what I have done, now I wait to see what they will do. By the way, FDR was not Internet savvy like Obama and I think Obama is a little more in tune with our world since he has access to more information than FDR did.
