1.  Why would someone on DU "unrec" this?
Edited on Sat Oct-10-09 07:18 AM by MoJoWorkin
I just canceled out their "unrec"

This is funny. Rush invites this caricature.

3. All but two of my Facebook friends are wingnuts
I've made so many enemies out of real-life friends there by sharing stuff like this.

19. Then please - share this video of the interview Limbaugh gave where
he admits he is all about the money - he doesn't care about anything else but the money

http://video.aol.co.uk/video-detail/today-show-today-previews-rush-limbaugh-exclusive-interview/2347127080

They should know that an evil version of the soul of PT Barnum lives in Limbaugh and he is just using their anger and playing on their fears to get the ratings so he can get the money.

5. I am really in a bind on Facebook. My best friend from college and
my maid of honor has turned in to a complete wingnut. Last night she posted an obscene message and then one of her friends posted a racist comment in reply. I feel like I should delete her but I do not want to give in to the insanity... what should I do?

7. It is not the political disagreement (doesn't like Obama etc...), it is

the acceptance of racism. Most of my high school friends on there are conservatives (I am from WV) but they do not delve in to that element.

9. you got to make your own mind up on this, but everyone on the planet had predjucies
you got to decide whether your friendship is worth taking the good and the bad, as im sure there are some things that you are at odds with as well. Remember to some people being a redskins fan is as bad as being a racist is to you, as humans we all have strange concepts on what we will accept or not.

13. That is the one thing I just can't overlook in a friend
If they are racist, I don't like them. Period.

But your friend may just not be willing to correct or rebuke a racist comment. Maybe you should ask her about it.

21. I tried that
I reconnected with someone on FB after 20 yrs. I knew where he stood reading his profile. But we were old close friends at one time. I invite him over for dinner, eventually the talk turns to Unions(he brought it up, I'm in one) then he asks "How did you get into the trades?" "I don't remember you being a girly-girl, but I don't remember you being a butch lesbian either". I really tried to smile through it, give benefit of doubt, shrug it off. But after thinking it over I let loose with both barrels on my FB page, I always kept it non-political, but that's not really me.
So, I offend people. Too bad now. He doesn't contact me anymore.

23. You are better than me.
I cannot do it anymore. I wish I could, but somehow ever since I hit the big 40 I feel no need to "make nice" or "behave" anymore. When I was younger I would try to be diplomatic. Now, if we don't share the same views, I'm out. Too aggravating.

8. Let The Problem Be Theirs...
I have a couple "friends" who have a bad case of rushpublicanitis...not a day goes by without another bitch posted. Most time I ignore them...especially when it makes the "friend" look like a total asshat. Once in a while, I will respond and don't care if what I says hurts or offends the other person as that's what they were intending to do to me. A big difference is I won't back down or get flustered...that's not always the case with a wingnut.

If the person puts their politics above friendship, that should tell you a lot of how much they value your friendship. If they're offended by what you think or say or have no tolerance to listen to the truth or even another opinion, let it be their problem to deal with.

10. About half my friends are righties, but I also believe that most of them absolutely HATE
being associated anymore with birthers, deathers, teabaggers, dittoheads, etc. and they, therefore, to avoid the embarrassment don't respond to me. They don't dare.

12. Hold Your Ground...
You are who you associate with. I never start a political "fight", but I always make sure to finish...and I show no mercy. I have no problems with rushpugnicans who want to dialogue or can discuss without talking points, but once they start whipping out the attacks and lies, they deserve it both barrels. Fortunately I have many great Progressive friends on FB...thus when some wingnut makes an ass out of themselves, someone is out there to go after 'em.

Best of luck to you...

14. My original posts on FB are usually harmless; meant to provoke thought rather than
attract responses. HOWEVER, I don't hesitate to comment and "shut out" other people's rightwing lies and misinformation. I depend heavily on my DU Bookmark file for useful ammo. Keeps me young.

16. I posted a job rant on FB...
(I was drunk at the time-which makes it even worse) and it got to my boss via a co-worker. THAT was fun, but by some miracle, I still have a job. People really need to be mindful of what they post on the FB. After that I removed everyone except family and very close friends.

You can always hide your friend. I had to do this with an old Army buddy I had forgotten was completely batshit. She kept posting in all caps.

26. my wife is in a similar bind
She just reconnected with her friend from grade school through high school. In the past 20 years the friend has moved from New Jersey to rural South Carolina, married a man who dominates her, become an "extreme" evangelical Christian and a general right-wing lunatic. My wife is so hurt to see what has become of her friend - I keep telling her she would be best to just say goodbye, but for the time being she is trying to ignore the racist and ignorant ranting from this person.

18. Steele, Limbaugh, Beck, Bachmann... all of 'em. Can they possibly be blind to the
fact that they hand us a gift every time they open their mouths? As I said upthread, many if not most of my right-wing "friends" no longer wish to be associated with dittoheads, birthers, teabaggers, etc. In fact, I wonder how many, if any, disassociate themselves with the republic party altogether.

27. Just Keep Refuting Their Points
It's outrageously easy to do if you give it a little bit of effort, and as an added bonus, it drives them nuts because the talking heads they GOT their shit from NEVER TOLD THEM how to support their opinions when they're called out on them.
