For anyone upset OR happy about Obama's Nobel
Some former winners include;

Jimmy Carter – Someone who thought drawing the Russians into an “Afghan trap” was worth the destabilsation of Afghan’s most progressive government, the deaths of countless Afghan people and the arming and funding of violent religious nuts

Yitzhak Rabin – a former member of the Palmach – quite simply a violent terrorist outfit who slaughtered innocents in order to further their political goals

Yasser Arafat – Given this is being read by an American audience I don’t think I need to specify this one’s violent past

Shimon Peres – formed national unity government with the unreconstructed right wing shit (and apologist for the Sabra and Chatilla massacres) Sharon, then left Labour and joined Sharon’s Kadima. As an afterthought described the Turkish genocide of Armenians as “meaningless”

FW De Klerk – Strong supporter of Aparthied for almost his whole life, including holding several Ministerial posts one of which was Internal Affairs (have a wild guess what THAT job entailed) something which he appallingly gets credit for ending when the wind had changed too much for there to be any other option

And of course Henry bloody Kissinger – enough said.

Whatever else these people did in their lives ALL of them have PLENTY of innocent blood on their hands

Seriously it’s no more worth getting happy or upset about than the Country Women’s Association Bakery competition fist prize

2. Happy to Unrec. I think it's great that
the NPP committees have had the guts to reward traditional War Hawks when they actually make a contribution to peace.

8. does that apply to everyone
does every get a pass on decades of violence because they have a (not particularly useless in the case of many of these - Kissinger for example) late in life change of heart?

5. And "this shit" is about as old now as the guy in that picture
That's all I heard in college about Carter -- that he was a war-monger, a mass-murderer, a this-that-and-the-other-thing.

Same for Bill Clinton, though I was out of college by then.

Obama is already a major evil-doer in the eyes of the Counterpunch audience. Kate Gosselin has nothing on them.

I don't think any of these maximum middle-class revolutionaries would know a real bad political hombre if s/he had a tatoo on his/her forehead that read "I AM A BADASS TYRANT".

7. Don't believe I said he was
or even came remotely close to saying that however the Afghan trap shit is not controversial - Brzezinki and Carter's role is well known to anyone with a passing education in history.

Also (to the other unoriginal post below) no-one said Carter was an unmitigatingly evil shit (I left that for Sharon after all)- JUST that he can hardly lay claim to being a peacemonger - no one who led a superpower can.

But hey - who am I to impose actual historical fact on a favourite American hagiography :eyes:
