Just returned from a RCC Cruise. FOX "News" Only was shown.
For nine days I suffered throuh. The cruise was good but not extraordinary...our 16th. But I was totally outraged that we could get only FOX "News" around the clock on THREE channels. I think we will not cruise RCC again unless a relative is celebrating a major event on one of ther cruise ships. Lots of international cruisers were aboard...so guess what kind of view they have of the USA thanks to FOX. Every other story was a bash against the US government, Obama, and/or the Obama administration...and mostly about snubbing FOX on some pool interview. At any rate, I was totally disgusted about it. No wonder they can claim to be No 1. In a lot of venues and across the nation they are the ONLY game in town. It's amazing...the dumbing down of America is everywhere.

15. If there was CNN would be out of the airports and thus out of business.

25. how can you regulate
what "news" (to use the term loosely) channel a private company chooses to display?

3. We are taking a RCC cruise in August of 2010
I will yank the TV out and throw it out at sea if Faux is shown.

The question is - what destinations did you go to?

We are taking the Mariner of the Seas to the Mexican Riveria.

5. If enough passengers requested a channel change, I feel sure they
(Crew) would oblige. When Fox first went national they had
viewers request Fox. Some Businesses are Republican but making
money is more important.

4. I would tell them the cruise was very unenjoyable, give every reason you can think of and get some
kind of refund/credit.

Did you ask anyone at the services desk why only Faux Noise Channel was available, and not CNN? Just to get their reason.

Hope you had fun otherwise. I've been a part of several threads over the years that discuss how Faux Noise Channel is in doctor's offices, tire shops, banks, etc.

Add your cruise story to the list!

6. That's enough for me to never want to utilize them
My bank used to have Fox on the little TV's at the drive up. I guess enough people complained becuase now it's CNN.

At one of my doctor's office, the lobby TV is always Fox. I love the doctor but hate the TV. I think it may be his staff, he really does not seem like a Fox News guy - too caring, too compassionate, too well-read and all the signs in his office are really quite amusing. Plus he's also well travelled. I need to shoot him some kind of anonymous email or something.

7. I don't do "cruises" so I don't go on these. I p;refer going into cities and finding great little
restaurants, but sometimes a cruise is worth it. That is awful that you could only get Fox. Can you tell me what the company sponsoring the cruise is? That would help me plan my next vacation...thanks!

9. At my age I prefer cruising because you have your
transportation, hotel and meals wrapped into one. You don't have to be schlepping luggage around from place to place. Of course it will be a long time before I can cruise again with the state of my finances.

11. The problem for me with cruises is that you come back to the ship every night for dinner.
I SO prefer to go to a place in the city for dinner, either by word of mouth (usually by the hotel) or someone else. I have NEVER had a bum steer this way. My greatest meals have been from recommendations from small hotels concierges and I kid you not. It's been great.

But I agree with you about the transportation and hotel. I simply cannot schlep my 40 lb. bag around too much, along with my take along bag and purse...too much.

8. On Holland American all we could get was CNN.
I wonder why they do just one cable news channel on the cruises? However, they did give us a small newsletter everyday with headlines of what was happening in the world. Also there was internet but it was so expensive, I didn't bother except to send a few emails.

13. There is definetly something fishy with FOX viewership???
MY SO and I have become more and more aware of only the FOX stations being tuned in at dental and medical clinics, auto repair lounges, car-washes, etc., etc., and yes maybe even cruisships, while all the time of patients, clients and tourists are actually spent reading books or in shipboard activities and not in viewing a TV. Suddenly becoming aware of what was happening, we questioned the receptionists/clerks, as to why they were holding their clients hostage to this crap (always loud enough for others to become more aware). The receptionists/clerks, seem totally unawares as to what show/channel is on. My SO questioned as to FOX paying the bill thus controlling the time FOX was viewed and how many faux viewers??? Maybe something Keith or Rachel whould investigate?

20. I'm guessing this is how FAUX gets away with bragging about being the highest rated network.
Apparently the Nielsen ratings people can poll their data from any TV with a digital tuner, so all of these TV's that just appeared damn near everywhere in the last few years, seemingly always tuned to FAUX Noise, are counted as "viewers".

Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if they take a TV in a business, multiply that by the maximum capacity of people who could be in that business at peak hours, and claim all of them as "FAUX viewers". Regardless of the fact of who is or is not actually watching.

that they stop showing Fox, but that they air MSNBC instead.

14. Absolutely. However, I just got back from Portugal and we just were out
till all hours of the night...so no one watched ANYTHING.

But that was us, Six Broads Abroad...quite a group, us...I went back to the room but eveyone else opted for the hotel bar...I guess I was the oddball but I just couldn't do it and did't want to do it...oh well...

17. I would rather they just put Cartoon Network or some other
ubiquitous programming on.
NOBODY should be made to feel uncomfortable and upset in public settings.
And I watch MSNBC pretty regularly.

at their expense or have the channels changed.
There is no good reason you shouldn't have risen up and demanded that they change the channel.

I don't put myself in situations that I cannot control.

18. why were you watching tv on a cruise?
vacations are all about escaping...

eat, drink, be merry and such. the world will keep a spining and terrible things will be happening and would wait for you to return home.

yes, it's not fair that faux is the only news, but I dont remember if my cabin had a tv on my last cruise a few years ago. I did know the names of several bartenders and the entertainment chief on the boat however.

23. Be sure to let them know how you feel.
Several other DUers have told or asked establishments to change the channel, and then posted about it here. It seems like most are successful, especially if you aren't nasty about it.
