"Capitalism is more important than democracy": from Capitalism: A Love Story
So I got back a few hours ago from Michael Moore's masterpiece. And wow, what a film indeed! But this post is not a review of the film.

No, this is a post highlighting what that reporter for that ultimate corporate mouthpiece, the Wall Street Journal said.

"I believe capitalism is more important than democracy."

The US Constitution says NOTHING about capitalism. Nada. Zilch. But it does say a hell of a lot about democracy. In fact, the first three words are "We the People..."

Capitalism is contrary to democracy. The owners of this country-the top 5000 wealthiest Americans, give or take-for the most part, pledge allegiance the dollar, not the flag. We have to fundamentally change our values system, from the bottom up and from the top down.

1. I disagree....

capitalism is not comtrary to democracy. Capitalism is an economic system and democracy is a political system. However, the brand of capitalism being practiced by many today runs contrary to what the framers actually envisioned for us. I'd invite you to read more about "democratic capitalism":

I'd invite you to read about it and see if that's not more like the way you think it should work.

2. I don't think that economic structures are synonymous with democracy
but I don't think that a the US is really a democracy either. Oligarchy? Yes, no question.

If we keep re-defining these terms all we seem to do is circle the drain.

3. simply
I believe Micheal Moore is saying that corporate money is electing politicians, not the people... I agree. It is absolutely necessary to implement campaign finance reform.

6. maybe that is what we should all be rallying behind
Democrats have tried to make universal healthcare their top issue, but without campaign reform it will never happen. I think that needs to become our number 1 issue as democrats.

4. you're absolutely right....
....capitalism is contrary to democracy....look at how the capitalists have purchased our government and our elected officials....capitalism is definitely more important than democracy....we fight wars, people die, for capitalism not democracy....

....capitalists own this country and its government....look at the economic crimes the capitalists commit without fear of punishment....who's went to prison, who's been executed for the economic meltdown and collapse that has destroyed millions of American lives?

....there's systemic risk out there in the market place alright, it's called capitalism; an uncontrolled ponzi scheme run by thieves disguised as business....

5. AH, yes. That would be CATO Stooge, CNBC Regular and all-around douchenozzle Stephen Moore.
The author and/or editor of such right-on-the-money classics as

Bullish On Bush: How George Bush's Ownership Society Will Make America Stronger :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: (ShyAH . .. howz THAT workin' out for you? More like the "You're On You're Own"-ership society.)

Privatization: A Strategy for Taming the Deficit (OH boy . . . another spank-o-rama for the Libertarian sect)

The End of Prosperity: How Higher Taxes Will Doom the Economy--If We Let It Happen (Didn't seem to doom the economy from 1949 to 1973. The trend of lowering taxes while shipping blue and then white collar jobs the hell overseas . . . a product of YOUR party's philosophy, BTW, is what doomed the economy. Stupid)

It's Getting Better All the Time: 100 Greatest Trends of the Last 100 Years (written in 2000, the start of one of the POOREST decade-long stretches of job growth in history. Need I remind Stevie WHAT happened last year under his party's watch???)

In the immortal words of Rodney Dangerfield, this guy really tells it like it AIN'T. Unbridled corporatism ruins far more lives than it enhances. And Stephen Moore remains a d-bag moron who, like all Republicans and Right-Leaning Libertarians, pseudo-intellectually tries to defend FAILURE . . . and in doing so, fails miserably. It's a comedy act where the joke's on US.
