Six arrested outside Lieberman's office
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 05:02 PM by cal04
U.S. Capitol Police arrested six people for unlawful entry on Tuesday after they refused to leave Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.) office.

The Independent lawmaker’s seventh floor office had seen nine previous demonstrators, also organized by activist group Code Pink, arrested last Thursday after they attempted to stage a sit-it, saying that Lieberman should stop accepting money from major insurance companies.

Six protesters were arrested this morning when they refused to leave Sen. Joe Lieberman's (I-CT) office and were charged with unlawful entry, Roll Call reports.

Last week, nine universal health care demonstrators were arrested in Lieberman's office.

CodePink helped organize both sit-ins, protesting Lieberman's threat to filibuster the health care reform bill. Joan Stallard, a CodePink member who watched Tuesday as police carted off her colleagues, accused Lieberman of accepting money from the insurance industry and thus voting in the interests of those companies.
"As an independent, we expected him to be voting with Democrats," she said, later adding, "When the people's lives are at stake, there shouldn't be any hesitation."

2. This is pointless. It won't change Lieberman's mind, it's not organizing opposition to Lieberman in
his state, it's only likely to alienate other people on the Hill, and it's not going to generate much useful publicity

I'm not at all opposed to direct action: but direct action should only be carried out in the context of a wider strategy
