.77 BILLION dollars for OKC convention center, while fire/police get cuts

The past few years, Oklahoma City voted to add a 1-cent sales tax, to help raise funds for the public school system (under a program called "MAPS for Kids"). This year, however, the proposal is for the sales tax ($777 MILLION dollars worth) to go towards funding a new convention center, downtown park, etc., but nothing for education (even though it's still being called "MAPS for Kids"). Never mind that essential city services such as the fire and police departments, are getting permanent budget cuts.

The proponents keep saying how this will create JOBS for people in OKC.

Sure, there'll be JOBS...for the fat cats. The whole thing stinks of graft.

Worst part is, it's almost a shoo-in to be adopted. Last year OKC voted to raise PUBLIC taxes to fund a PRIVATE sports arena.

They have built three new sports areanas here in Cleveland and all it brought was free rent for three rich guys playing with their toys...
