Pelosi takes shot at Bush over jobs
By Eric Zimmermann - 12/04/09 12:07 PM ET

Though jobs numbers released this morning were better than expected, Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn't want anyone to forget that the economic crisis started under the Bush administration.

The Department of Labor estimated today that just 11,000 jobs were lost in November. Economists had predicted that between 100,000 and 150,000 Americans would lose their jobs.

Pelosi took the opportunity to take a few shots at the last administration.

"After losing an average of 673,000 jobs per month in the final three months of the Bush Administration, the report for November showed a job loss of 11,000 jobs – the lowest level since the recession began in December 2007," Pelosi said in a statement.

"The Bush Administration policies created a huge jobs deficit, and getting Americans back to work has been and will remain our top priority," Pelosi said in a statement.

Democrats have openly fretted that a bad economy may doom them at the polls in 2010.

Pelosi credited the stimulus package for the economic turnaround, and hinted that Democrats will push forward with a jobs bill.

"In the coming weeks, House Democrats will continue to build on our efforts to grow the economy and create jobs by investing in our infrastructure, helping local governments keep teachers, police officers, and firefighters on the payroll, and assisting small business owners," she said.

1. Every Democrat should be repeating news like this to drown out the MSM and Repub memes...
It is vitally important that we do this because the negativity next year will be profound. The Repubs will just make things up.

5. LOL... that'd be nice, huh?
It'd be a big change from the refrain here... (i.e. it's only christmas jobs, still 11,000 too many, they're not good paying jobs, they are lying!, etc.)

4. Will this idea creep into more mainstream reportage?
After all, you don't turn an ocean liner on dime or all in a moment. I think the jobs numbers have been helped by the stimulus, and now is a good time to follow through with further stimulus funds, more spending on projects in the country, and more projects being brought forward to fund. There are still lots of bridges and roads that need repairs, and a lot of schools that can be built or modernized. Get cracking on projects like that, and you goose the industries that supply those projects, which in turn increases demand for their ancillary products and services. Dollars spent in a community tend to multiply their effect; dollars shipped overseas to further military endeavors are used once and then disappear from the economy.
