For Joe Lieberman this is JUST BUSINESS - Being Able to Piss Off Liberals Is Merely A Bonus

The whole meme about Joe Lieberman throwing sand in the gears of health care reform out of some petty motive like revenge is misdirection at it's finest. Granted, Joe probably gets a kick out of poking liberal Democrats in the eye, but he is not doing this solely or primarily for that reason. He is doing this because it is good business for Joementum Inc. And, a good business it probably is for Ol' Joe. He is doing a HUGE favor for MANY Senate Democrats. He is giving them exactly what they wanted and needed - plausible deniability. Dem Senators like Evan Bayh have thus far dodged the bullet of having to publicly side with big insurance. Joe has given these Senators a real gift. President Obama and Senators like Bayh will now be able to campaign as though this giant turd of a bill is real reform that they bravely fought to get passed. Big Insurance gets 30 million more sheep to shear. As an added bonus for Big Insurance, they get to have Uncle Sam as their collection agency. Talk about a big stick!

No, Joe is a smart operator and I doubt he would do anything if there were no profit in it for him. He has the eternal gratitude of Democratic Senators that had to kill meaningful reform for their corporate backers without leaving fingerprints on the knife that killed it, Obama gets to sign the bill he always wanted to sign and Big Insurance gets a huge windfall. It's just business - not personal.
