So Jebus turned against Coburn and
the FAMILY? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. He should have known after Ensign and Sanford 'got' busted.
What a sick fuck!!

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., showed his true stripes as a member of The Family, the right-wing religious group famous for its C Street house, which is kind of a rooming house for rhetorically puritanical male members of Congress who can't keep those members in their pants. Coburn seemed to call for imprecatory prayer -- the kind of prayer by which one prays for bad things to happen to one's enemies.

"What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can't make the vote tonight," Coburn said from the Senate floor. "That's what they ought to pray."

That didn't go down too well with the Dems, considering that the 92-year-old Robert Byrd, W.V., who has been in very fragile health, was counted among the 60 votes the Democrats needed to break the filibuster.

Majority Whip Richard Durbin, Ill., called Coburn to the floor to explain his comments, but the Oklahoma holy man (and obstetrician) never complied. "I don't think it's appropriate to invoke prayer to wish misfortune on a colleague," Durbin said.

Perhaps you may have read it. Perhaps you have not. But via Dana Milbank in the Washington Post

At 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon -- nine hours before the 1 a.m. vote that would effectively clinch the legislation's passage -- Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) went to the Senate floor to propose a prayer. "What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can't make the vote tonight," he said. "That's what they ought to pray."

It was difficult to escape the conclusion that Coburn was referring to the 92-year-old, wheelchair-bound Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.V.) who has been in and out of hospitals and lay at home ailing. It would not be easy for Byrd to get out of bed in the wee hours with deep snow on the ground and ice on the roads -- but without his vote, Democrats wouldn't have the 60 they needed.

I know this diary is short, but I want West Virginians to know just how evil, nefarious, feckless, wholly unChrist-like these people like Tom Coburn really are.

2. Coburn's prayers weren't answered

I take it.

God to Coburn: Sometimes the answer is "NO!!" no matter hard hard you pray. I would think if one were a true believer that would be especially the case if you were praying for harm to come to someone.

4. He was praying to a non-existent thing.
It's no wonder it didn't work. He may even know that, and was just posturing for public viewing. Either way, he's a moron.
