Human Rights: Open Letter to Barack Obama
Sent to whitehouse.gov on 12/28/09:

Dear President Obama,

I'm sure that the people of Iran appreciate your support and your condemnation of the harsh tactics being used against them.

I'd like to remind you that the people of Honduras are also being treated harshly. Dissidents are dying in much higher numbers there than in Iran. The coup government that received tacit support from your administration also now deserves your condemnation.

I am asking that you pursue human rights equally for all people, based on fundamental principles, and without regard to whether the U.S. has any "vital national interests" at stake.

Regards,

5. kick, simply well said.
Who knows it might even make a difference.

I own both a hawk and a handsaw, know how to use them, but am still probably quite insane.

Listen to the Aurora for me! - See, told ya'

Cheers!

8. President Obama gets a letter from me almost every day
I try to keep them short and clear.

The Honduras situation was so badly managed, and I think the President knuckled under to Jim DeMint and business interests at the expense of the Honduran people and our credibility in Latin America.

Human rights are human rights. I don't like how politicians condemn human rights violations in one place, support them in another, and ignore them someplace else.

Relative to US policy our vital national interest in each case is quite different. In LA our interest is to suppress popular democracy and in Iran we support democracy. Go figure.....
