Remember all the shite about Obama and Dawn Johnson

1. Y'know, you could just have said she was renominated.
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 11:39 AM by Ken Burch
Until this item came out, those who said she'd be discarded had no reason to believe otherwise.

Isn't it enough to be happy that she wasn't thrown under the bus after all?

(I say this as a person who wasn't actually involved in the issue of this person's nomination at any prior moment, as far as I can remember.)

5. I didn't feel like it. Look, I"m all for criticizing the President
I'm hardly a "cheerleader" but I think that it's going beyond that into demonization. And those threads a couple of weeks ago on this subject were, to my mind, a prime example of that.

instead of whining about being called out about it.

So I don't HAVE any wrong to admit.

"Johnson is eminently qualified to head the OLC. She has been an outspoken critic of Bush’s torture and eavesdropping programs, argues persuasively for accountability for wrongdoing, and has written passionately in support of checks and balances and against executive branch power grabs. She is a strong progressive candidate who could restore the tainted OLC to a place of legal professionalism and pride. And, like the majority of Americans, Johnson thinks abortions should be safe and legal in most cases."

What, exactly, is your problem with people holding their government accountable? You may be personally too cowed or lazy to do anything, but why do you have a problem with other people participating?

23. So we should wait until Obama *actually* shitcans the nomination before we speak up?
Do you really understand how democracy works?

Just in case you're unclear, I also called the White House, my congresswoman and both of my Senators. And I encouraged other to do so as well.

Let's say, just for argument's sake, that the article we posted was total and complete bullshit. What possible harm is there in calling politicians to let them know we're watching and that we have opinions on what they do? Is there any answer you can come up with, other than the fact that you dislike having your personal idol criticized?

So... why all the hostility toward people who actually participate in their government, as opposed to slagging dissenters on a message board?

28. That reminds me of when I told my sister to stop sending me her teabagger
racist, secessionist bullshit emails. She pretended that all she wanted to do was to get people to pray about the nasty stuff she passed around. Regardless of the fact that she never once asked anybody to "pray" about any of it. What was there to pray for anyway? That teabaggers would miraculously grow brains and hearts?

You posted a bullshit, fact-free article and now you pretend that all you wanted to do was get people to participate in their government. Regardless of the fact that you never once asked people to make phone calls. No. All you did was post yet another bullshit article from a dubious source as if it were fact.

30. OK, so what you're saying is you want me to treat you like a child. Understandable.
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 01:41 PM by jgraz
Most of the people on this board know how to participate in our government without being told. I didn't realize you were one of the few people who did not know that phone lines have been installed in our nation's capital for quite a few years now.

And speaking of acting like a child, the information in the article is not bullshit just because you say it is. Was Johnsen's nomination returned, or was it not? Did the Senate skip a promised an up-or-down vote or didn't they? Does the nomination process have to start over or doesn't it? Was her nomination stalled for longer than any other nominee, or wasn't it?

The opinion and conclusions of the piece are pretty well delineated for those with critical thinking skills. You may not agree with the conclusions the author arrives at, but calling the article "fact-free" betrays your own lack of reading comprehension.

33. Did Obama "kill the nomination?" Of course not. The article was bogus
from the title to the last sentence. And yeah, my sister said she expected everybody to pray that Obama was really an American citizen and that states wouldn't have to secede and that all Mexican immigrants would stop being criminals, too.

And that was bullshit, too. She intended people to believe that Obama was born in Kenya and that the southern states and Oklahoma would secede and that of course all Mexican immigrants are criminals.

The article YOU posted intended people to believe that Obama killed the nomination.

35. Once again, you fail to discriminate between fact and opinion
The facts listed in the article were essentially correct. The author believed that Obama had killed the nomination, which is a conclusion I agreed with. Given the long list of outright betrayals by this administration, it was a pretty safe bet.

I still think it's a safe bet. I will bet that, this time next year, Dawn Johnsen will still not be confirmed. I hope I'm wrong, but I have recent history on my side.

29. Thank you for actually participating! *If* she actually gets renominated, we'll owe that
100% to the progressive activists who kept Obama's feet to the fire. Thank you for doing your civic duty! :D

:applause:

:yourock:

The president, along with Democratic leadership in Congress, has been criticized by progressive activists for an apparent unwillingness to press for Johnsen's confirmation. As of several weeks ago, it was largely assumed that her nomination was dead.

A re-nomination, of course, would change that perception and already the administration seems to be striking a much more aggressive tone when it comes to condemning the delaying tactics deployed by Senate Republicans -- when it comes to nominees and actual legislation.

The impatient me wants recess appointments. The pragmatic me wants Obama to continue to show that the Pukes are obstructionists. The realist me knows that the news about all of the obstruction is not getting through the corporate media filter. Gimme a minute and I can have more internal conflicts about this for you.

34. it's funny about anonymous sources on Huffington Post
when they are critical of Obama, people trash Huff Post, and tell stories about when they first found out how bad Huff Post was, and trash Arianna, and denounce the use of anonymous sources as completely worthless.

But when the story puts Obama in a good light, people seem to take the story as truth. They don't even mention the sourcing at all. They don't express any skepticism at all.
