Susan Molinari mulling run against Sen. Gillibrand (NY-Sen)
Source: Staten Island Advance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former GOP Rep. Susan Molinari is looking at running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this year.

Ms. Molinari, 52, who left Congress in 1997 and currently lives in Virginia, said that given the health care debate and the upcoming trials of accused 9/11 terrorists here, "it's an important time to have aggressive leadership in the Senate" in the tradition of Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Alfonse D'Amato and Charles Schumer.

Ms. Molinari said she is being urged to run by her father, former Congressman and Borough President Guy Molinari, and by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, both of whom called her yesterday.

"This is very early in a conversation I'm having with myself," said Ms. Molinari, who is a senior principal at the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm, where she does government affairs work and lobbying.

A Republican who touts Moynihan and Schumer as role models is one who'll most likely get a "Tea Party" opponent in the Primary or General election.....

7. The daughter of republiscum Guy Molinari:
From Wikipedia:

<snip>
While in Congress, he was the only member of the New York delegation to vote against the Martin Luther King holiday. In 1994, he held a press conference to announce that Karen Burstein was unfit to be New York State Attorney General because she was a lesbian. In 1995, he ran unsuccessfully for Richmond County District Attorney and lost by a wide margin.

11. He couldn't even win in his home state...
And a nasty primary is the last thing we need. :-(

Maybe Rick Lazio will step up again and really mix it up!

Tho hasn't he set his sights on governor?

17. Yup, it's true...
But it doesn't look like he'll have any better luck with that than with his doomed attempt against Hillary Clinton... x(

Even in G.O.P., Lazio’s Bid for Governor Is Hard Sell

15. Eh?
Though there are a lot more liberals in NY than TN. And that 'white woman being hit on by big menacing black man' ad his opponent ran -
Well? I lived in WNY for 30 years. That sh*t won't fly. Even in redder than red Monroe County. So if it were a Molinari/Ford contest? She better come up with something a lot better than: Big Scary Black Man at Party with White Women.

No offense to DU'ers in TN - but Ford ran a hell of a race. He just couldn't beat long entrenched 'beliefs' by a large part of the population.

Oh - and Lazio! One of my friends from university worked for him right out of school in the mid-90's. The guy is an ass clown to the nth' degree. She's a reformed Republican. ;rofl: She alone could do some serious damage to him. I say bring Lazio on! She now lives in TN, volunteered on Ford's campaign - I think she would thoroughly enjoy coming out of the woodwork.

19. I wouldn't characterize either Gillibrand or Ford as "liberal,"
But she has the home state advantage and is well liked by those in both parties. I worked for Scott Murphy, her successor in the House, and we also courted what were called "Gillibrand Republicans."

As for Rick Lazio, his failed run against Hillary Clinton not withstanding, he'll have to get in line, too, behind more popular and well known candidates on both sides, Andrew Cuomo, Rudy Giuliani, Gov. Paterson (not so popular, but the incumbent), and whomever else announces...

29. I don't like Susan
But it's really unfair to link her to the sins of her father. I live on Staten Island, and know that she isn't particularly liked by the right of her party.

18. Little Suzy

I went to grade school with her. Her father was then a scumbag Repub lawyer in Staten Island who later became the scumbag Borough president of Staten Island.. Wasn't she married to that Bill Paxton Repub who had to resign because, I forget, it was Joey Scars who had the dead intern right, Sorry, I can't remember what Paxton "didn't do" to have to resign. Oh, and one more thing, I always tell friends when she is on the Tee Vee this: Once in second grade, Suzy had to go to the little girls room. For reasons I actually can't remember, the Sister (Nun type) did not let Suzy (that was her name then) go. Little Suzy proceeded to just let it all out at her desk. I can still see it... So sorry, I have never been able to take her seriously since. True story folks

21. Interesting grade school account of Molinari...
And her husband, Bill Paxon's, "scandal" was an alleged homosexual affair with "The Hill" correspondent, Sandy Hume (son of FIXED News's Brit Hume), who committed suicide in 1998... Paxon did not run for re-election.

33. Oh, I always assumed she went to OLQP
Because she visited our class as a Councilwoman all the time in the mid 80's, and she was always at our church at the time.

What happened to her brain was probably listening to her dad all these years growing up. Probably brainwashed her. :(
