The outpouring of international civic and NGO aid to Haiti is quite amazing.

Small Go teams of specialists. Financial aid from national governments. Unity of purpose manifested by massive aid of moral and material support.

Special kudos to Iceland. A small, bankrupt nation, their Go Team was the first to arrive, traveling some 7,000 miles to get there.

There are days we can be proud to be humans.

First to arrive--northern Virginia, but shortly thereater teams from all over the world. They may not be "human" but they give their ALL for us, wishing very little in return. ;)

I read that quote from the Dalai Lama a number of years ago, and it's stuck with me. Deep down, I still believe that most of the horrible human behavior is a veneer on, not the core of, human nature.
