Et Tu, Fox News Channel?
It's a horrible, unspeakable tragedy that gets you right in the core of your humanity. The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere is flattened by a huge earthquake. Hundreds of thousands killed, thousands of children orphaned, more than 1.5 million now homeless. Bodies of the dead are lain in the street to be bulldozed into mass graves while machete-wielding gangs fight for the scarce resources. The pain, the fear, the sense of hopelessness is palpable.

It is now incumbent upon all of us, as fellow humans, to lend a hand and help the Haitians. And in a rare show of humanity, broadcast and cable television outlets have agreed to pre-empt their regular programming to air the Hope For Haiti Now Global TV Telethon.

Except for Fox News Channel.

Our crack C&L team has checked around the dial and compiled a list of channels participating:

CBS
ABC
NBC
CW
FOX
TNT
Weather Channel
MSNBC
CNBC
CNN
HBO
Showtime
Major League Baseball Network
Style Network
E! Entertainment Network
ReelzChannel
TNT
Comedy Central
Oxygen
Soap Opera channel
Bravo
National Geographic Channel
Sleuth
G4
CMT
TV1
BET
MTV
MTV2
VH1
GMC
FUSE
Current
PBS
It's even streaming live on IMDb, Hulu and YouTube.

But not for FNC or their sister business channel. They're showing Billo and crew.

I guess that tells you exactly what you need to know about Fox's responsibility as a "news" channel.

The Hope For Haiti fundraiser will distribute donations to the following organizations: The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, United Nations World Food Programme, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, Unicef, and Wyclef’s Yele Haiti Foundation. If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so now.

1. Again, this does them no good ...
their sole mission right now is to illegitimize president Obama every second of every day ...

part of the package in doing this is painting things as broke and negative as possible ...

we are at our BEST when we respond to major crisis like this, and they simply CANNOT let their zombies get a sense that the country would rally behind something like this while BO was president ...

If there was an R in the white house, they would be there like anyone else, and it makes GOOD programming to have all of the despair and carnage that Haiti has, but they won' touch it with a 10 foot pole because it is too positive for them right now ...

3. Faux News gets no benefit from airing the telethon. My guess would
be that a majority of those folks watching are the ones that listen to Limbaugh when he suggests that there is no reason to donate to Haiti because we've already helped them with our taxes.

While it's scummy for them to refuse to air it, IMO, I would guess that it's no loss. Their audience isn't going to give anyway.

4. I noticed this right away, but wondered...
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 07:19 AM by Flubadubya
Did FOX refuse to air it or did the organizers of Hope For Haiti refuse to request that they air it?

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the latter. Why would this group of people want their noble efforts to be channeled through the slime airwaves?

Anyone know the answer to the first question?

6. I did not want to watch the telethon....
and was glad to find some channel with regular programing. Nothing about disrespecting Obama or Haiti's misery for the choice came into play.

7. I flipped between it and the Food Network
Not out of disrespect, but because some of the screechers...I mean singers were getting on my nerves.

They couldn't find Haiti if they were standing in it.
