2. I knew it was fake
Because that would have been LBN, and quite possibly a thread that never died.

6. What is funny about it?
I'd bet when all is said and done that traditional, religious, GOP voters will have ended up donating more money than any other group.

These people donate HUGE amounts - particularly through their church groups.

I recall seeing studies that consistently showed conservatives tend to donate the most on an individual basis. Not sure if said studies are true, but either way, these people certainly donate very large amounts after catastrophe's like this.

Think that it had something to do with the conservative mindset that individuals are responsible for this kind of charity, while more progressive/liberal people tend to see it more as the role of government through tax dollars.

7. Yet it was Rush Limbaugh who made the tax dollars argument.

But I will agree that the "joke" was witless and unfunny.

8. I'm sure they do
Conservative organizations, however, do not.

Mostly because it goes against their whole reason for existing - that people should "help themselves and not expect handouts". Ergo, Rush and Robertson blaming Haitians for their own situation.

I wouldn't expect the Heritage Foundation to donate any more than I would the KKK. But I said nothing about individuals.

9. I don't even buy that..
So you think the Brookings Institute gives more to charity than say, the Heritage Foundation?

I am not so sure that is true. I haven't researched it, but I don't see any reason to believe this would be accurate.

Because a couple whackjobs like Rush or Robertson don't give to Haitian relief funds does not mean most conservative individuals or conservative groups do not.

When all is said and done, I bet it is likely that religious conservative individuals will have donated more than any single other group of people to Haiti. And I have serious doubts that if you were to measure conservative organizations versus progressive organizations that you would find conservative groups coming up short.

As I said, the reason for this is fairly well documented. Conservatives (and I bet conservative organizations as well) view these sorts of relief efforts as the responsibility of the individual, while progressive/liberals more often tend to see it as the domain of government which they effectively donate through via their tax dollars.
