Obama wants to go back to the Clinton policy of direct student loans
It has been stated that if we do this we will save more than $46 Billion dollars. $46 billion dollars is quite the savings for our government and our Students who will receive very low interest or zero interest loans and will get much forgiven if they use any of their education for Public Service... Imagine, bankers made that much money from our children and tax payers when Republicans were in charge. Democrats want to change that and I say about time...

1. That policy benefitted me a great deal
I was in college during the Clinton years. Thank God I didn't have to deal with private, predatory lenders.

2. I agree with that.
However, I think it needs to be coupled with a change in our trade policies.

Otherwise, we are going to have millions more educated people without good jobs, and little means to pay back their "news" low interest rate student loans.

3. Of course they should...the way Bush and the Repukes had it,
it benefitted their buddies at the banks.

4. Back when I was in college, there were more grants and less loans. And the loans had 1% or 2%
interest rates.

My wife graduated and we had to pay all of $25 per month on her loans. Even being very poor, that was manageable.

Now, grads come out with five- and six-figure loans balances and payments larger than some mortgages.

If only the US valued education like our European friends...

5. The US does, it is Republicans that put money and cronyism first above the nation.
