State Senate speaker and gubernatorial candidate Ron Ramsey says he doesn't know whether President Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen, but is telling fellow Republicans that it's not an issue that voters care about.

Ramsey was asked about his views on Obama's citizenship at a Republican gathering in Nashville on Tuesday.

Ramsey's response: "I'm going to tell you something, I don't know whether President Obama is a citizen of the United States or not."

1. Shorter Ramsey
Let me have my wingnut cake ("I don't know"), and let me eat it ("But I'm not going to make an issue out of it"), too. I wonder if the True Believers will let him get away with that? After all, if you acknowledge a constitutional crisis exists, or may exist, aren't you obliged to resolve it? We in the progressive community aren't thrilled by our elected officials who acknowledge that the Bush administration was up to its beady little eyes in high crimes and misdemeanors, but decline to do anything about it. I don't see the tea-baggers being a real forgiving and understanding bunch.
