2. 2 massive snowstorms in less than a week.
Will there be flooding when they melt?

12. I guaranatee you there will be some flooding. I lived in Etna,
& Glenshaw for most of my life, and parts of Etna always flood after a heavy rain or snow. Many, many other places habitually flood under tonse circumstances. I just hope for all my previous Pensylvanians that it's not TOO BAD!

21. And since there's no "partial thaw" on the horizon...
the flooding could be historic. Once in 500 years stuff...

19. Hey, on Xmas Eve, it snowed 14 inches in Oklahoma City; and I had driven through the day before.
And drove back through a couple days later.

At least Penna knows how to clean up the roads after the blizzard -- I can't say the same for Oklahoma (or, as I call it, Ocasino).

today (live on a state road). :scared: It's dark and it's snowing hard.

18. Yes. I guess it's the heavy snow clouds. It's really odd - haven't
seen it like this before :-(. We got lucky this past weekend - only 8" here then, but so far from last night until now it looks like 15+.

25. Va. doesn't have the snow removal equip. to handle that much
snow at one time! I wouldn't call them whimps! I grew up in Pa. and moved with my job to SC in 1987 in Sept. In January 1988 SC got 20" of snow. I was appaled by their inability to react. They weren't wimps, they just don't have snow plows and salt/sand etc. I85 was closed for 3 days. A semi driver died in his truck because he ran out of fuel and litterally froze to death!

13.  Are there people stuck in cars out there? I've long said that we
in the Great Lakes snow belt go through natural disasters every year, but no one notices because we keep the streets open. If people are stuck out there in cars, they are in as much real danger as anyone stuck in a California mountain pass. At the very least, re-opening a road full of stuck cars is a real problem. Each car would have to be dug out and pushed out of the way.

22. When the storm lets up, you might want to go out and get a copy of this trilogy:

Fifty Degrees Below

and

Sixty Days and Counting

by Kim Stanley Robinson

Be aware - it is a fantasy, because the premise is that the US government is able to take positive steps in the face of disasters due to global climate change. I don't see that happening until we elect enough Democrats from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party!

24. I'm not surprised. I'm within a half-hour of 81 and 83, and it's awful out there. Blowing, drifting
The snow has been falling nearly nonstop since about 3:30 yesterday afternoon ... and now it's flying almost completely sideways ... high winds and bitter cold. I can barely see out my window.

As long as the coffee holds out, I plan to stay OFF the roads and IN the house.
