Dang, is Coca Cola everywhere?

Looting breaks out during lull in Mogadishu fighting

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Gunmen plundered computers and bags of sugar from a Coca Cola plant in Mogadishu on Friday during a lull in fighting between allied Somali-Ethiopian troops and insurgents, a local manager said.

The unidentified group, who were wearing uniforms, commandeered 12 trucks to drive away the booty seized in the overnight looting spree that took place after the plant was shelled, local Coca Cola manager Bashir Mohamed Araye said.

"Our offices were broken into and all computers looted. We had supplies of sugar that were supposed to last the whole year -- they were also looted," added the manager of the Somali-owned franchise in a smart and modern compound in Mogadishu.

The odd stray bullet was heard in the Somali capital, a day after Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi declared significant gains in the government's nine-day offensive to end resistance by a group of Islamist fighters, foreign jihadists and some clansmen.

1. At least they use real sugar in Somalia
If it were here, they would be stealing the high-fructose corn syrup.

Cheers

6. Yes.
Even in John Lennon's lyrics from "Come Together."

He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

9. I remember a movie back in the mid-late 80s with Eric Roberts
who was trying to get Coca Cola sold in kind of the last place on earth that didn't sell it. I think it was somewhere in the Aussie outback or maybe it was in NZ. It was a comedy that ran true about Coca Cola's dominance.

12. It was unknown in the Communist Bloc until 1980. Nixon's friend ran Pepsico.
So Pepsi went everywhere Nixon went - USSR, China.

FDR's campaign manager and postmaster general, James A. Farley, was on the Coke board, so coke went everywhere FDR did: South America and it followed the troops. Farely got coke declared a war priority industry, so they were the only cola with access to real sugar, hence the Real Thing slogan.

13. Reminds me of another movie from the '80's
The Gods must be crazy:

The bushmen are living well off the land. They are happy because the "gods" have provided plenty of everything, so no one in the tribe has unfilled wants. One day, the pilot of a passing airplane drops a glass Coke bottle. Initially, this strange artifact seems to be a boon from the gods — Xi's people find many uses for it. But unlike anything that they have had before, there is only one bottle to share among all members of the group. They soon find themselves experiencing things they never had before: envy, hatred, even violence.

It is decided that the bottle, renamed "the evil thing", must be thrown off of the edge of the world. Xi volunteers for the task. As he travels on his quest, he encounters western civilization for the first time. The film presents an interesting interpretation of civilization as viewed through Xi's perceptions.

14. Elevator! Going up!
In the gleaming corridors of the 51st floor
The money can be made if you really want some more
Executive decision-a clinical precision
Jumping from the windows-filled with indecision

I get good advice from the advertising world
Treat me nice says the party girl
Koke adds life where there isn't any
So freeze, man, freeze

It's the pause that refreshes in the corridors of power
When top men need a top up long before the happy hour
Your snakeskin suit and your alligator boot
You won't need a launderette, you can send them to the vet!

I get my advice from the advertising world
Treat me nice says the party girl
Koke adds life where there isn't any
So freeze, man, freeze

Koka Kola advertising and kokaine
Strolling down the Broadway in the rain
Neon light sign says it
I read it in the paper-they're crazy!
Suit your life, maybe so
In the White House-I know
All Over Berlin (they've been doing it for years)
And in Manhattan!

Coming through the door is a snub nose 44
What the barrel can't snort it can spatter on the floor
Your eyeballs feel like pinballs
And your tongue feels like a fish
You're leaping from the windows-saying don't
Ayaiiiiirrrghhh! *@!!*@!!*!
Don't give me none of this!

I get good advice from the advertising world
Treat me nice says the party girl
Koke adds life where there isn't any
So freeze, man, freeze
Hit the deck!
